Description
Originally from Sainte-Croix en Plain, the Alsatian Sainte Crucienne brewery first saw the light of day in 2007 during a boozy evening, thanks to a band of idealistic friends eager to create different and very hoppy beers. At the start of their adventure, they started by brewing 20 liters of beers, then 100, then 600. It was not until 2013 that the brewery officially started in its premises in Colmar, in just three years the volume of production has doubled to reach 3000 hl today.

They share this success with a whole community of independent brewers who are part of the Front Hexagonal de Libièration, with whom they continue to work. The goal is to multiply collaborations and unique brews to create an ever more original beer in taste and participate in the revolution of the world of craft beers.

bottle from Auchan Illkirch-Graffenstaden. Hazy amber with a mid-sized beige head. Hoppy-herbal nose. Medium-bodied, malty base with a yeasty touch, some berries, some spicy herbs and a shy hoppy finish. Not like a classic Dunkelweizen, but a nice interpretation of the style, unusual at first but it grows on you.

Charred smokey meaty bacon. Smoked Gouda cheese. Quite strong in this sense, but it is a good smoke if you like the style. Saveur bier advent calendar 2019 (3.4 nov 2019). Drank again May 2020 savuer bier variety pack. Upgraded to 3.5. Clean mild balanced smoke.

Bottle. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is maracuja indeed, mango as well, nice aroma, not too intense, a touch yoghurt. Taste is maracuja, mango and minerals, a touch salt, very refreshing, tart but not too tart, the fruits are captured very nicely, not artificial either. Refreshing tart finish, fizzy carbonation. Nice!

330ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with small to average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, dark beige head. Dark malty and minimally fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of treacle, caramel, floral honey, praline, lingonberry, some plum and blueberry, later more spicy, roasty and minimally smoky malty. Taste is minimally smoky, slightly roasty, dark malty, slightly fruity, minimally floral hoppy, notes of dark chocolate, a touch of ashes, some honey, praline, caramel, treacle, plum, lingonberry; lingering bitter and fruity hoppy as well as bitter, roasty dark malty finish with minimally metallic overtones, well hidden alcohol. Relatively watery texture, relatively thin body, dangerously drinkable. An Impy Stout that benefits a lot from sophisticated hop usage, allowing ever-changing recombinations of hop and malt aspects: smoke and plum here, chocolate and lingonberry there - praline and lingonberry here, smoke, dark chocolate and blueberry there; and so on... varied and multifaceted right from the beginning till the last drop. Very, very nice.
