well, this right off the bat doesnt seem to live up to its other belgian tripel bretheren. First thing i’m smelling is booze, and its only an 8% beer. I’m having trouble getting this down, the flavour is all out of whack, kinda tastes like fermented rotting fruit, wow, this is bad, must be an off bottle.

on tap at the beer bistro.
pours a dark orange color, small head that doenst last very long. Big yeast notes in the nose, along with some slight citrus. flavour i find is unbalanced between the yeastiness, and a spicy notes that is comming through, hmmm, i’m not liking this that much, Its decent and well made, but doesnt suit me.

Bottle in an xmas gift pack. Aroma is yeasty and bready. Slight ripe fruit notes in the nose. Flavour is again, fruity, and yeasty. Pretty run of the mill if you ask me.

Draught Thick, dense light-cream head, irregular, over deep red to foxy-brown beer, veiled. Extremely vinous nose, deep & complex. Rich red fruit, partly dried, pineapple, musk, and a whaft I somehow associate with Escargots de Bourgogne . Sweet and vinous, as a (red) dessert wine. Cherry & portwine, if that makes sense, if not that dense. Light sourishness, as orangepeel and blood orange juice. Gradually the Brettanomyces shows itself. Slight alcohol- and acidthining. Quite slick, soft carbonation. Impressive, almost unbelievable change compared to the base beer.

Draught Small tan-cream head, stable and slightly irregular over red-rimmed, almost black beer. Roast malts, sweet rum, bit of vanilla. Sweet if complex booze. Sweet-sourish. Bitter roast, some hints at hops even, bitterish booze, hinting at cachaça/coffee. Serious alcoholwarming, and the strength is even partly disguised by the coffee notes. Chewy. Quite good indeed, complex and rewarding.

Draught Overflowing grey-cream head, fast reduced over almost black beer. Rainwater, dry roast, bit ashy. Lots of breadcrust - I really seem to get Maillard. Really dry, exceptional. Ashy, ultra-dry roast. Again breadcrust, dried-out brown bread. Light body if very slightly chewy. Soft carbonation. Dry, not-quite-empty finish and aftertaste. Remarkable. A true relief amongst the ocean of oversweet pastrytonkavanillamarshmallowcrèmebrulée stouts.
