Draft at the brewery - dark ruby - super dry and moderately tart - flavors of lemon balm, blueberry, tobacco, light balsamic - chocolate, earthy leafy character - okay.

Taster at the brewery - turbid gold - soft texture - a bit yeasty and muddy in flavor, but with some bright herbal character and mild funk pushing through that - some finishing pepper and moderate sweetness - a bit dull overall, but I see potential.

Tap at the brewery - Oakes IPAs always taste dull and flat to me, and this is no different - some herbs, dull hop character, light pepper - bland.

Sampled at a Goose island brewery bottle share. Spelt saison has a LOT of oak in the nose, and in the palate. Must be pretty freshly bottled here. Yet, when I pull from the bottom of the bottle, I lose the flavor it might have been meant to have. My taste is flat and skunky, with the pall of sweat and disappointment. Sorry about that. I'll always be open to trying another one later.

Sample from a bottle at beer meets wood last weekend. Deep gold in color with a hint of purple and a thin white head. Lightly tart with a bit of earth and funk and some plum fruitiness to round it all out.

Bottle shared in Keystone - picked up in Denver. Pours unclear orange with a frothy head. Great aroma, some farmhouse funk, mild yeast, citrus. Light sweet flavour with a little musty funk, orange and tangerine, a little barnyard and poo, lemon peel. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Clean finish, lightly tart, with more citrus, grapefruit, farmhouse funk. Excellent.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy opaque golden with a medium white head. Aroma brings out lots of oak, rustic saison yeast, and a nice funk. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of saison yeast, farmhouse notes and oak. Dry and oaky, with farmhouse notes on the finish. Excellent.
