Description
A true craft brewery specializing in French and Belgian inspired farmhouse style beers with a Pacific Northwest twist.

Upright Brewing specializes in truly handcrafted, small batch beers made with character.

The name references the primary instrument of Charles Mingus, the great musician whose compositions defied categorization.

At Upright the recipes and processes are decidedly unbound, yielding brews that share Mingus’ spirit of exercising creativity & craft.

On tap at Loyal Legion - Portland, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out a nice wild yeast character, a touch of sprucey, and a touch of coriander-like spice. Flavour is nice and tangy, with lots of tart citrus, gentle saline, very subdued spruce, and some coriander-like spice. Somewhat briny finish, with plenty of saline and gentle tartness. Solid.

On tap at The Beer Mongers, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma is full of sweaty, dry farmhouse notes, oak, and hay. Flavour has a nice old brett funkiness, leather, hay, and musty sweatiness. Seems a bit tired but is otherwise well-constructed.

Bright and gold. Medium head. Light acidity, somewhat yeasty, on the sweet side. Yeah Upright's saisons fell off quite a bit over these last few years, unfortunately.

Beautiful golden amber, thin head. Nice English-style yeast character, fruity, caramel malt. Then on the palate it’s hoppy, a bit of alcohol, resinous, the candied fruit notes come through the finish. Love that anglo-american character
