Description
Great Notion Brewing is a project started by three friends; Andy Miller, James Dugan, and Paul Reiter. All three guys met each other out of coincidence, they live on the same street in North Portland. Andy and James met each other while home brewing in 2010, and began developing recipes and building a friendship. Together they have 25 years of brewing experience with medals in the National Homebrew Competition for fruit lambic and Double IPA. Paul Reiter has a degree in business and finance with a focus on start-ups and creative enterprise . In April of 2014, the boys finally got together and shared some home brew. On this night they enjoyed a Stout with hand smoked Vienna malt, a 3 year old Peach Sour, and a 10% double IPA. It’s fair to say, on this night, Great Notion Brewing was born.

16 oz can. Aroma is berries, marshmallow, vanilla. Pours murky purple with a one finger pinkish-purple head with good retention. Taste is moderately sour (7/10), fairly sweet, and even pretty bitter with flavors of the adjuncts.

16 oz can. Aroma is lime, cinnamon, vanilla. Pours hazy golden with an immediately collapsing off-white head. Taste is highly sour (8/10), salty and a little sweet with flavors of key lime pie. Like the Baked beer I had before this, I wish there was more of a pastry character.

16 oz can. Aroma is peachy, vanilla, cinnamon. Pours murky orange with a one finger off-white head that settles into a ring after a minute. Taste is moderately sour (6/10) and a little sweet with flavors of the adjuncts. Not as much of the pastry flavors as I was hoping for. Mostly just peach. A little thin.

Aromas are a mild blend of resin, malt and citrus. Flavors are similar to nose with citrus coming on a bit stronger. Easy bittersweet. Not a lot going on but not bad.

16 oz can. Aroma has notes of cantaloupe, gummy peach rings. Pours murky orangeish-yellow with a one finger soapy white head with decent retention. Taste has a moderate bitterness that builds on the palate to highly bitter. Flavors like the aroma. Alcohol fairly noticeable. Good stuff.

Dark brown, inky, no head. Soft, sweet, a little fruity, the cognac/armagnac barrels bringing unique complexity.

First time I ever heard of mangosteen. Had to look it up. Aroma's are mangoes, pineapple with a little banana and cheese. Flavors are similar to nose. Slightly more sweet than tart with good carbonation. Good body and finish follows flavors, but turns bitter at the end. Nice.

Shared with Josh during our trip to Festival of Dark Arts 2026.
Aroma: maple syrup, some fruit/berry notes, some American oak, bold, sweet.
Taste: along the same lines.
Overall: not as great as 2025, but definitely going there from previous releases.
