Description
Great Notion Brewing is a project started by three friends; Andy Miller, James Dugan, and Paul Reiter. All three guys met each other out of coincidence, they live on the same street in North Portland. Andy and James met each other while home brewing in 2010, and began developing recipes and building a friendship. Together they have 25 years of brewing experience with medals in the National Homebrew Competition for fruit lambic and Double IPA. Paul Reiter has a degree in business and finance with a focus on start-ups and creative enterprise . In April of 2014, the boys finally got together and shared some home brew. On this night they enjoyed a Stout with hand smoked Vienna malt, a 3 year old Peach Sour, and a 10% double IPA. It’s fair to say, on this night, Great Notion Brewing was born.

From Good Times Oakland, canned February 4th.

Pours slightly hazy yellow gold with half inch of foam. Retention is good, lacing is okay.

The smell is grapefruit citrus, bit of grass, toasted malt, hoppy overall.

The taste is big grapefruit but not particularly bitter. Side notes of, perhaps, orange peel, toasted malt, grass I mentioned in the smell is not there to my palate.

Nice smooth mouthfeel, I would drink this again.

Can at Bistro Zizkov, Östersund. You can't go too wrong with a classic American IPA. This delivered the usual profile for the style, but never really excited fully.

12oz shared with Phill at his place.
Aroma: caramel, dark fruits, orange peel, moderately sweet.
Taste: nice body, malty, dark fruits, mix of orange peel and cherries with some cherry pit notes.
Overall: I wouldn't say it is barrel aged or barleywine, but it is definitely a pleasant drink 😁

Cloudy dark yellow pour with lasting medium white head. Hop citrus and herb aroma, rather full. Full hop taste with a tiny alcohol burn, nothing to be concerned about. Medium hoppy finish.

16 oz can. Aroma is chocolate, banana, gun metal, nutty. Pours very dark brown to black with a thin tan head that reduces to a ring quickly. Taste is bittersweet with chocolaty flavor; banana is fairly subdued. A little underwhelming, but not bad.
