Description
Great Notion Brewing is a project started by three friends; Andy Miller, James Dugan, and Paul Reiter. All three guys met each other out of coincidence, they live on the same street in North Portland. Andy and James met each other while home brewing in 2010, and began developing recipes and building a friendship. Together they have 25 years of brewing experience with medals in the National Homebrew Competition for fruit lambic and Double IPA. Paul Reiter has a degree in business and finance with a focus on start-ups and creative enterprise . In April of 2014, the boys finally got together and shared some home brew. On this night they enjoyed a Stout with hand smoked Vienna malt, a 3 year old Peach Sour, and a 10% double IPA. It’s fair to say, on this night, Great Notion Brewing was born.

Panda at home, thanks to the Wingman, 24/07/2025.
Hazed orange topped with a just off white cap that thins to a swirl.
Nose is ripe tropicana, lychee, perfume, orange peel, pineapple, pine resin.
Taste comprises guava, mandarin, lychee, pine resin, floral, perfume.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spliced with juicy hop bitterness.
It's okay but overly sweet and perfumed and lacking bitterness for my liking ... almost slightly sickly in places!

On tap at Great Notion - Ballard, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is full of Reese’s PB cups, peanuts, marshmallow, and cocoa — mostly PB cups though. Flavour is less sweet than expected, with lots of PB cups, cocoa, light sugars, and some marshmallow. Tons of peanut butter cups on the finish without the requisite sweetness, and it’s not too artificial. Fun stuff for what it is.

On tap at Great Notion - Ballard, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma is very seltzery, with gentle floral hops and a touch of piney hops. Flavour is rather uncoordinated, with seltzery notes, muffled hops, some pine, and light citrus. Finishes dry and crisp. Not the best hop expression, and far from a superior WCIPA. Meh.
