Description
Great Notion Brewing is a project started by three friends; Andy Miller, James Dugan, and Paul Reiter. All three guys met each other out of coincidence, they live on the same street in North Portland. Andy and James met each other while home brewing in 2010, and began developing recipes and building a friendship. Together they have 25 years of brewing experience with medals in the National Homebrew Competition for fruit lambic and Double IPA. Paul Reiter has a degree in business and finance with a focus on start-ups and creative enterprise . In April of 2014, the boys finally got together and shared some home brew. On this night they enjoyed a Stout with hand smoked Vienna malt, a 3 year old Peach Sour, and a 10% double IPA. It’s fair to say, on this night, Great Notion Brewing was born.

473ml can. Hazy golden, white head. Aroma of mangosteen, mango, lime, grapefruit. Taste is sweet, lots of ripe mangosteen, lime, grapefruit, mango, the mangosteen does overpower the hops quite a bit though. Medium bodied. A bit sweet for me, think the original Ripe is better, but the mangosteen addition is very nice.

(I originally thought mangosteen was a tasting note as per the description, but it does say "with Mangosteen" on the label.)

473ml can. Hazy golden, white head. Aroma of mango, grapefruit, tangerine. Taste is juicy, tropical, ripe indeed, mango, grapefruit, tangerine, pithy hop finish. Medium bodied. Nice one.

Tåkete brun med mye skum ved skjenking. Lukter blåbær , vanilje og lime. Lett syrlig. Smaker blåbær og lime. Syrligheten kommer mer i avslutningen. Frisk.

500mL bottle, pours jet black with a small light brown head. Aroma is rich, with intense vanilla beans, big bourbon barrels, dark sugars, and some marshmallow. Flavour is rich and complex as hell, with huge bourbon, lovely dark sugars, vanilla beans, and some marshmallow. Huge vanilla and deep bourbon. Endless complexity. Beauty.

500mL bottle, pours jet black, almost no head. Nose has plenty of almonds, some cocoa, huge bourbon barrels, and a touch of coconut — yeah, that’s nice. Flavour is rich, with intense almonds, coconut, and bourbon barrels, and dark sugars. Not too sweet at all, with a wonderful barrel espresso and great use of the almonds and coconuts. Wonderful.

12 oz. can, pours jet black, like motor oil, no head. Aroma is full of intense maple syrup, big bourbon barrels, and dark sugars. Flavour has huge maple syrup, big bourbon barrels, sticky sugars, burnt notes. A bit brutal and lacking complexity, but that’s par for the course for Double Stack nowadays.
