Description
Great Notion Brewing is a project started by three friends; Andy Miller, James Dugan, and Paul Reiter. All three guys met each other out of coincidence, they live on the same street in North Portland. Andy and James met each other while home brewing in 2010, and began developing recipes and building a friendship. Together they have 25 years of brewing experience with medals in the National Homebrew Competition for fruit lambic and Double IPA. Paul Reiter has a degree in business and finance with a focus on start-ups and creative enterprise . In April of 2014, the boys finally got together and shared some home brew. On this night they enjoyed a Stout with hand smoked Vienna malt, a 3 year old Peach Sour, and a 10% double IPA. It’s fair to say, on this night, Great Notion Brewing was born.

16 oz. can, pours a clear pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma is super pungent on the NZ hops, with a beautiful hop tang, green melon, white wine, and gooseberry. Flavour is maybe less obviously NZ-centric, with plenty of tropical melon (Mosaic influence), gooseberry, and gentle hop tang, with a thin biscuity malt base to back. Really clean and vibrant hop expression without much residual bitterness. Excellent.

Pale gold. Medium head, though it is weak. Big nz hop aroma, maybe a little mosaic in there as well. This has a bit of pale malt for base, and medium bitterness. The nz hop character is fairly potent on the palate as well. It's almost grassy, but comes together with kiwi fruit, gooseberry accents. Solid work.

Out of a can. Hazy light yellow, with a big, fluffy white head that retains throughout. Aroma is lemon, citrus and yeast. Flavors chewy tropical fruit. Nice velvety covering over the tongue.

473mL can. Pours clear light gold with a white head. Lots of tangy berries, tropical fruit, and fresh grass on the nose. Flavour has a nice tangy NZ character, bright tropical fruit, pine, and a soft, doughy fresh hop character. Finishes nice and bitter. Fantastic.

16 ounce can from Jersey Fine Wines in East Brunswick. Number one with a bullet. Hazy medium gold color. Frothy white head. Aromas of coriander and apricot. Flavor is more of the same. Earthy wheat malt, coriander, peach and apricot. Light in body. Decent flavor. Dry finish.

Dark brown. No head. The aroma is massive vanilla. On the palate, it comes across somewhat hot, with a lot of vanilla and of course some sticky stuff underneath. The stout character is heavy on the chocolate, which gives it kind of an Oreo cookie vibe, or at least a bourbon-barrel aged Oreo cookie. The body is rich, the finish sweet and warming. There’s plenty of bitterness to lend support as well.

Small pour at Belmont Brew House. Hazy golden pour, skin of white head . Strong fruity aroma, mango, pineapple (obviously). Light vanilla appears in the taste, mild tart notes. Juicy, smoothie like character.

500ml @ Ryan's shared with Josh.
Aroma: heavy, sweet, nice vanilla, some chocolate and American oak, somewhat like a chcocolate cookie notes.
Taste: along the same lines, viscous, moderately to highly sweet, some toasted barrel, chcocolate, and nicely balanced vanilla.
Overall: very good.
