Description
Great Notion Brewing is a project started by three friends; Andy Miller, James Dugan, and Paul Reiter. All three guys met each other out of coincidence, they live on the same street in North Portland. Andy and James met each other while home brewing in 2010, and began developing recipes and building a friendship. Together they have 25 years of brewing experience with medals in the National Homebrew Competition for fruit lambic and Double IPA. Paul Reiter has a degree in business and finance with a focus on start-ups and creative enterprise . In April of 2014, the boys finally got together and shared some home brew. On this night they enjoyed a Stout with hand smoked Vienna malt, a 3 year old Peach Sour, and a 10% double IPA. It’s fair to say, on this night, Great Notion Brewing was born.

Tap at Ale Arsenal. Pours slushy orange juice color with small ivory head. Massive orange aroma and fantastic fruit flavor. Amazing flavor on this hazy.

Aromas are resin, MJ, a little stone fruit and citrus. Flavors are similar to nose, bittersweet. Soft mouth and a mildly sweet finish. Good but been done before many times.

9th August 2025
Panda thanks to Wingman. A mild to medium haze on this orange gold beer, small and short lived pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Smooth pale malts, a slightly thin creamy sweetness. Very peachy stone fruits. A little soft citrus underneath. Soft pine on the end. Peachy!

16 oz can. Aroma has notes of grapefruit, pine, pineapple. Pours hazy golden with a two finger cream-white head with excellent retention. Taste has a high pithy bitterness with nearly zero malt sweetness detected; finishes very dry. Flavors of pine and citrus. Prickly carbonation. This is great.

Aromas are a nice fresh blend of citrus, resin, malt and a little MJ. Flavors are similar to nose; slightly more bitter than sweet or carbonation. Pretty good.

Lots of sugar but really balanced out by bitter coffee and savoury maple.

US Pint can from O'Sheas, poured into a Kasteel chalice (twice) at my daughters place in Laguna Hills on 1st August 2025. Near black body, tanned head that became a wisp and collar very quickly on both pours. Intense maple syrup and coffee nose, these esters carry on into the boozy flavours, almost harsh coffee taste tempered by the maple syrup sweetness. Walnut like flavours try and butt in and it becomes a little 'nutty' as it warms in the glass. All in all a very nice 'Nightcap' and a beer that will help me sleep (Jet Lag still playing havoc with my sleeping and I've been here 9 days).

pitch dark smooth large light brown head.
maple syrup, roasted malts, coffee, brown sugar, honey in the aroma.
vanilla pancakes aroma. normally i find pastry stouts artificially sweet and artificially flavored but this aroma is natural and really good.
flavor is chocolate, roasted malts, bit watery palate, dark caramel, espresso coffee or hard roasted coffee, burnt pancakes - far from as good as aroma but still reasonable pastry stoutish. burnt caramel is too big in the mix.
