Description
Sixth generation headstrong Belgian true craft and traditional brewery, established in the early 1800's and on the same exact location were we are still today since 1859! Call us stubborn. But we are still a family with strong values. We still brew all our beers ourselves. We still use the original copper kettles. And we can guarantee our quality for at least another 150 years! We're headstrong. True craft brewers. And we're from Belgium!! These beers were not made in someone's garage as a hobby. For six generations, brewing is our family's passion. We do not follow hypes. We stay true to the craft. Without compromises on quality. And in this respect, you can call us stubborn.

Deep red purple colour, purple-ish lasting white head. Aroma of bilberry with some sweet lemonade tones. Flavour of bilberry and sugar. Some malt tones. Too much sugar for my flavour, I would have liked to taste the astringency of the bilberry skin. Too sweet, otherwise OK.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, orange-amber colour with a blond dense and tall foamy head. Yeasty, sweet malty and slightly citrus-fruity aroma with mouldy and spicy notes. Sweet and bitter flavour, medium bodied with a rather lame carbonation. Initially slightly sugary malty and fruity taste with a rising bitterness towards the finish, which is furthermore metallic and mildly spicy. Not the best Tripel out there. 17.VI.11

Originally rated November 2008. Bought at the LCBO, with an added sticker written 5.5% alc./vol. Pours a pale golden-yellow colour that is hazy. Carbonation is decent, with a small white head that does not leave much behind. The aromas are very mild with little orange zest and Belgian white yeast. A refreshing mouthfeel that is semi-crisp. Again, not much to the taste. A little citrus, a little yeast and a little apple aftertaste. Not much here at all.

Bottle. Pours pinkish. Off white head. Nose of cherry pie and cherry juice. Some hints of caramel candy. Taste is mostly cherry, pie crust and unidentifiable sweetness. Less artificial tasting than some krieks. I don’t get that dietary sugar feel to it that I get with some others. Still, its a bit thin and more like a cherry juice than a beer.

bottle@bar: earthly amber/brown coloured with beige head, tasted sweet with heavy emphasis on overripe fruit with nuts, caramel & toffee, roasted malt & some maple syrup, bit light bodied, not that impressive really

A bit cloudy pale yellow beer, little flecks floating around. Off-white creamy head, non adhesive and non stable. Aroma: dirty yeast, a bit chemical, alcohol, sugar, some spices. MF: ok carbon, light body. Taste: citrussy hops, some sugary sweetness. Aftertaste: again the citrussy hops, a little more bitter. Is this the Herkenrode Bruin without the colorants? Lame and boring beer. If the Best Before date is correct, this beer has already had a whole year of re-fermentation in the bottle. Doesn't taste like it at all...

3/04/2011 33cl bottle @ home - BB: 3/2012 (2011-130)

Completely clear ruby to reddish brown beer, off-white head, unstable, dissipates fast, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet caramel, sweet fruits, sugar. MF: almost no carbon, light body. Taste: citrussy hops, that's pretty much it. Aftertaste: a little citrussy hops again. Must be the most boring thing I tasted in a long time.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, orange-amber colour with a beige and medium-sized foamy head. Sweet and bready cara-malty aroma with a nutty touch and notes of dried figs. Sugary sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Strong and sugary cara-malt character with a light fruity touch; sweet and sticky malt-accented finish. Too simple and sweet. 21.III.11
