We’ve produced quality beers over the years by challenging and refining our craft, not by appeasing trends. Discerning taste, rolled up sleeves, and upholding our uniquely progressive ideals ensures our drinkers will appreciate Upland beers as much as we do. Many of our brews are unique twists on traditional recipes, while others are creations of our own imaginations. At our brewpubs and tasting rooms in Bloomington, Columbus, Carmel and Indianapolis, flavor, discourse, debate, laughter, and conversation flow as freely as our beer.
Upland Brewing Company was founded in 1997 by Marc Sattinger, Russ Levitt and Dean LaPlante. In 1998, distribution of bottles and kegs began and the brewpub opened its doors. In 2006, ownership changed hands to a group of local investors remains 100% family owned. 12oz (355ml) can (aged on cacao version) from Kaffee Bazaar webshop. F: medium, tanned, average retention. C: dark, opaque. A: rich malty, dark fruits, cocoa, chocolate, spicy, caramel, toffee touch. T: full malty base, cocoa, roasted tones, dark bitter chocolate, dark fruits, caramel, spicy, dried plums, nice balanced bitterness, light oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation, nice balanced for the style, enjoyed for sure.

Very nice and pretty clear beautiful peach and apricot coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall off-white head that fades pretty quickly and doesn't show much other signs of carbonation, around 25 per cent opaque. Aroma of very soured and tart, spontaneously fermeted notes with some peaches, grass, apricots, light tea, a dash of flowers and coriander seed and a hint of tropical fruits, but no real pineapple scents noticeable per se, but nice in the nose. Light-bodied; Very assertive soured and especially tart notes with some fresh pineapples and perhaps more noticeable - canned pineapple and pineapple juice elements that somehow lead to a noticeable and entertaining fresh chamomile flower experience (as my favourite tea, this is easy for me to pick up) with some honey and other floral notes, but the interplay between the tart fruits and the more balanced, herbal chamomile is nice, all with a very light malt body here and the dry oak and foeder, spontaneously fermenting yeasts make this tart and complex, even at the end. Aftertaste is robust, complex and enjoyable with a big tart quality, some citrus fruits and a hint of grass, even, but the floral and dryness is nice, especially at the end to add some variance to the soured, tart and tea components from the pineapple and chamomile. Overall, a very nice and complex beer that has a wide range of flavours, but all crisp, easy-going, nuanced and additive for this one - they work very well together and they balance each other out entirely. I think this works better as a sum of it's parts and components than a beer without the pineapple, yeast, oak and especially chamomile all together at once. I sampled this 500 mL bottle, purchased from The Beer Store in Franklin Mills (Philadelphia), Pennslyvania on 05-October-2019 for US$7,50, with Batch #00, bottled on 17-August-2017, sampled just over 3 years after purchase and a bunch after 5 years after bottling, sampled at my house here in Washington on 08-October-2022.

Pours clear light gold with minimal head. It smells of funky wild Belgian yeast and citrus. The flavor is funky, fruity, oaky, and tart with some malty sweetness. It’s balanced and delicious, an excellent lambic or lambic like beer

Blackberry, horse blanket, malt, and hay aroma. Ruby red with minimal head. Moderate sweet-tart blackberry, malt, moderately sour citric acid and Brett, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Good body. Pleasant and refreshing.

Very crisp and ever so slightly hazy golden and peach coloured body with a thinnish just off-white head that fades quickly and leaves nothing up top. Aroma of crisp and slightly soured fruit notes with a light touch of malt and sugars here, without much else, aside from a bit of a dried note from grasses and hay, but this of course is about the tart fruit that does come out in the nose. Light-bodied; Very crisp and super understated malt profile that has a bit of the dryness, but no other real characteristics, aside from the tart strawberries and blackberries that come through with some lemon and dry cleanser like notes. Aftertaste shows some soft graininess without much else again, perhaps a dose of sugars and some hay, but no sweetness, malt, yeast or anything of structure. Overall, this is very easy-drinking, without too much pungency, depth or flavours aside from the fruit. Nice to try, but not really enough here or enough complexity to make this a good/great option. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Everyday Wines in Ann Arbor, Michigan on 02-August-2021 for US$2,25 sampled while hiking Shenandoah National Park on 09-July-2022.

Typical session ipa. Light, hoppy aroma with citrus. Moderately bitter hops. A little citrus. Some underwhelming malt. The malt profile tastes like most other session ipas. It’s okay. I’m still not sold on any of the low cal beers though I guess it’s better than some.
