Modern Times is a 30bbl production brewery and tasting room in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. Modern Times is named after a beautifully crazy utopian community founded in 1850 (see “Modern Times was..” for the full explanation), and (almost) all of our beers are named after real utopian experiments or mythological utopias.

Can at home. Pours semi opaque golden with white head. Nose is hay, light bready malts, moderate noble hops. Taste is beautifully rounded bittersweet harmony of hay and grass, bread and a touch of herbs. Closes with sweetish bready hay notes, has a light body and soft carbo. Noice.

Can shared with Nari and Gabor Gábor. Pours black with beige head. Nose is intense chocolate, booze and dark malts, with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. Taste is sweet booze and molassess, chocolate and cinnamon, nuts and caramel. Closes with a long lasting sweet finish, has a full body and soft carbonation.

Can shared at work. Deep golden pour, white head. Nose is honey, resin, light fruits and herbs with a weird vegetable touch, this latter is gone quick tho. Taste is moderately bitter, fruity and resinous with vague oxidized notes. Bitterish, grassy finish, light body, soft, in fact too soft carbonation.

Dark brown. No head. Excellent chocolate, dark malt, figgy, toffeeish aroma, with big bourbon character. Lots of umami as well. It's got a big bourbon, nice light fruit, hints of alcohol, big fat bourbon and again the rich dark malts. Excellent.
