Description
Urban Artifact is Ohio’s home for sour beer; located in the historic St. Patrick’s church in Cincinnati. With a special emphasis on fruit beers, they have created a niche with their signature overfruited Midwest Fruit Tart style focusing on balance, drinkability, and real fruit. Brewing a bevy of different sour beers, from the standard German style gose, to the exotic spontaneously fermented barrel aged sour with a wide variety of different fruits, there is sure to be something new and exciting to explore. We are currently on pace to use over 400,000 lbs of real fruit this year alone!

Our Northside, Cincinnati taproom is open seven days a week, with food service provided by Wildfire Pizza Kitchen. We host live music five nights a week at the Radio Artifact Live stage, and make the historic church sanctuary, The Reliquary, available for receptions and events.

Radio Artifact, the Urban Artifact hosted independent music radio, can be listened to on 91.7FM HD2 in Cincinnati or live streaming online at radioartifact.com

On draught at Barley Hopsters. The beer is a cloudy reddish-orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of fruit, coffee and bready malt. Medium body with flavors of tart tropical fruit, yeast, doughy malt and subtle coffee. The finish is moderately tart with a fruit and mild coffee aftertaste. Interesting concept, and above average overall.

Willebecher draft at The Growler House in Cincinnati, Ohio. The pour is a slight haze golden with a small white head that falls quick. The aroma is softly tart lemon, lemon rind, and some floral. The taste is the lemon citrus bitterness, tart, soft acetic, and the grain floral towards the back. The palate is light bodied with soft carbonation and a clean though semi watery finish. Drinkable, not as much character as I was expecting.

Bottle: Cloudy, pinkish gold with an off-white head. The aroma and taste are remarkably like those strawberry cookie things..... Sugar wafers, I think? A really interesting flavour and feel....drinks lightly. Pretty enjoyable.

Sample at The Ohio Taproom. The beer is a hazy gold color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lace. Tart citrus, yeast and malt aroma. Light-bodied with a salty citrus character and flavors of wheat, yeast and biscuit malt. The finish is tart with a citrusy aftertaste. Above average overall.

Shaker pint draft at the Overlook Lodge in Cincinnati, Ohio. The pour is a hazed brown, reddish with a small off white head. The aroma is raspberry, citrus lime, soft sweet fruit and a general yeast tartness. The taste is clean fruit flavor, with the elements of the nose in nice balance - raspberry, lime citrus and orange fruit sweetness are all present. The tart sourness is below the fruit, clean and well integrated. The palate is medium bodied, soft natural carbonation and a pleasant lingering fruit tart finish. Really easy drinking.

12 oz tulip draft at Urban Artifact Brewing in Cincinnati, Ohio. The pour is brown blueberry blue with a 1/2 inch foamy white blueish head. The aroma is a soft tart sour and fresh blueberry fruit. The taste is clean fresh blueberry fruit initially, opening to tart fruit skin and finishing clean and crisp. Bit of Brett yeast as the beer warms. The palate is medium bodied with an unfiltered mouthful and a great dry fruit tart Brett finish. This was really nice.

Once again I feel the need to resurrect my "some things should not be" argument against a beer, in this case because I’m drinking a goddamned chocolate gose. Not that Sliderule’s terrible, just too weird for my blood, a big salty tart chocolate berry cordial, mixing flavors that should never be mixed. Starts with tart raspberry and yeasty breadiness, then the chocolate sets in and everything kinda goes to hell (no pun intended.) Tart lemon and Tootsie Roll on the finish. Can’t dig it, but my wife likes it, so I won’t be too harsh.

12 oz can poured, courtesy of prufrockstar. Thanks, Chris! Celebrating the first Mariners home run of the year. We’ll see how many home runs I can celebrate with a rating this year. A much darker than expected copper orange pour with almost no head. Love the can though. Berliner style pale ale. So, an India Berliner Weisse? I’ll take it. Fruity aroma, some tropical fruit, lemon like. Flavor is cool, has a slight acidic bite to it, some metallic notes, some juicy grapefruit afterthought. Minimally tart. 3/10 sourness. Refreshing though. Interesting, unique beer for sure.

Bottle. Strawberry, biscuit malt, and light straw aroma. Hazy golden yellow with minimal head. Moderately sweet strawberry, biscuit malt, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Okay body. Pleasant fruity beer.
