Description
Urban Artifact is Ohio’s home for sour beer; located in the historic St. Patrick’s church in Cincinnati. With a special emphasis on fruit beers, they have created a niche with their signature overfruited Midwest Fruit Tart style focusing on balance, drinkability, and real fruit. Brewing a bevy of different sour beers, from the standard German style gose, to the exotic spontaneously fermented barrel aged sour with a wide variety of different fruits, there is sure to be something new and exciting to explore. We are currently on pace to use over 400,000 lbs of real fruit this year alone!

Our Northside, Cincinnati taproom is open seven days a week, with food service provided by Wildfire Pizza Kitchen. We host live music five nights a week at the Radio Artifact Live stage, and make the historic church sanctuary, The Reliquary, available for receptions and events.

Radio Artifact, the Urban Artifact hosted independent music radio, can be listened to on 91.7FM HD2 in Cincinnati or live streaming online at radioartifact.com

Once again I feel the need to resurrect my "some things should not be" argument against a beer, in this case because I’m drinking a goddamned chocolate gose. Not that Sliderule’s terrible, just too weird for my blood, a big salty tart chocolate berry cordial, mixing flavors that should never be mixed. Starts with tart raspberry and yeasty breadiness, then the chocolate sets in and everything kinda goes to hell (no pun intended.) Tart lemon and Tootsie Roll on the finish. Can’t dig it, but my wife likes it, so I won’t be too harsh.

12 oz can poured, courtesy of prufrockstar. Thanks, Chris! Celebrating the first Mariners home run of the year. We’ll see how many home runs I can celebrate with a rating this year. A much darker than expected copper orange pour with almost no head. Love the can though. Berliner style pale ale. So, an India Berliner Weisse? I’ll take it. Fruity aroma, some tropical fruit, lemon like. Flavor is cool, has a slight acidic bite to it, some metallic notes, some juicy grapefruit afterthought. Minimally tart. 3/10 sourness. Refreshing though. Interesting, unique beer for sure.

Vegetal citric hops on top of a heavy Berliner Weiss. Not a bad combo, with a lingering yeast-tinged tartness clinging to the palate even as the hops drop off. Not bitter, though; lemon and grapefruit dominates, yet the IBUs never peek through the curtain. Solid if a tad incomplete.

Sampler at brewery. Hmmm. I don’t get much spruce tips. So look at the regular rating.

Sampler at brewery. Lightly hazy gold color. I like the lactic sharp tartness but house character is blah. So, it was surprisingly nice compare to most of the other 15 beers.

Sampler at the brewery. For me, the best of all 15. The brett is strong with this one. An herbal brett overload. Flavor has a not actually bitter hop flavor but more like a rough green flavor. But love the brett. Thick, muddy yellow, can’t see thru it, appearance. The brettiness covers up the house character and the poor hoppiness.
