Description
Urban Artifact is Ohio’s home for sour beer; located in the historic St. Patrick’s church in Cincinnati. With a special emphasis on fruit beers, they have created a niche with their signature overfruited Midwest Fruit Tart style focusing on balance, drinkability, and real fruit. Brewing a bevy of different sour beers, from the standard German style gose, to the exotic spontaneously fermented barrel aged sour with a wide variety of different fruits, there is sure to be something new and exciting to explore. We are currently on pace to use over 400,000 lbs of real fruit this year alone!
Our Northside, Cincinnati taproom is open seven days a week, with food service provided by Wildfire Pizza Kitchen. We host live music five nights a week at the Radio Artifact Live stage, and make the historic church sanctuary, The Reliquary, available for receptions and events.
Radio Artifact, the Urban Artifact hosted independent music radio, can be listened to on 91.7FM HD2 in Cincinnati or live streaming online at radioartifact.com

Pours like a smoothie. Minimal off white head immediately disappeared leaving a still, thick, caramel coloured body. Aroma of stewed fruit, white wine & over ripe fruits. Medium bodied, chewy, finely carbonated - clean & crisp on the finish. Stewed fruit & vegetables, citrus, lemon, white wine & vinous tastes. This is just like an alcoholic smoothie.

Keg at BD Castlegate. It pours lightly hazy purple with a tiny white head. The aroma is fresh, bright, tart, juicy, blueberry, fruit pie, vanilla, touch of funk and blueberry cobbler. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, lactic, sour blueberry vibes, touch of vanilla, earthy, wood, lemon sherbet, granny smith apple, bright acidity and damp leaves with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly. Bright and juicy. Nice.

Incredibly sweet booze-bomb, bourbon serving as the dominant flavor, overpowering any barnyard and/or sour brett notes and leading to a cloy, caramel-laden sugary back end. Some lemon-orange in the middle, enough to give the pint a whiskey sour vibe, and a mild oak flourish on the back end adds a woodsy-herbal tint to the massive sweetness. Too little too late, though; the caramel and bourbon are way too aggressive. Good texture, okay pour, and the nose promises a much more complex beer than we actually get. Not for me.

My label is totally different, it has a geeky girl on the front carrying a sliderule and a flask. I hesitated to buy this can. I was initially repulsed by the thought of it but then, couldn’t stop looking at it and thinking, oh my. Pour dark like a porter, same head too. Smell borders on artificial raspberry with shades of chocolate. Head disappears. Thin like a gose, not viscous. I was expecting a thicker brew. Taste is a little chocolate but the tart raspberry sticks out fer sher. Pleasant. Odd. Unique. Taste at times borders on hard to take, but never really gets there. Good sizzle and tartness carries it thru. Chocolate tends to fade in the middle then the raspberry gose starts to punch its way forward. Not sure about this one. Drink one? OK. 2? Not sure but, it is a pleasant all round experience for a one night stand. Nice visit, but would not want to live there. heheheh. Strange presentation for a gose.

So, in a can the word is cum kwawt. What is a quawt? Is that equal to twat? From the start this is mild, and friendly citrus, not like that green grapefruit ipa BS. Yes, smooth and easy going. Not as sugary as a radler but certainly in the vein. I liked this from its commencement, would be a good going away brew after a night of hard P’burger drinken. Nicely done, tasty and refreshing fer sure. I could easily drink a sixer when cutting my acre plus grass.

12 oz can poured, with much thanks to prufrockstar for the can. Spent a while convincing myself to finally open this. The chocolate raspberry part sounds amazing as usual. But in a gose.. still wasn’t sure. Much better than I expected. Has the flavor of a chocolate raspberry stout, but a much much thinner body, so all is well. The flavor is spot on. Raspberry is much stronger than the chocolate, which I enjoy here. Lingering red raspberry constant, with a minimal tart. Cool throughout. Very enjoyable.

All sorts of weirdness going on here, none of it all that encouraging for a funked-up DIPA. Super-sweet, with layers of caramel and honey on top of modest orange-lemon hoppiness, slight funk popping up alongside a pine and herbs on the finish. Not enough wild yeast to make things interesting, though, and the hops are too restrained to give a solid DIPA slap to the face. Gorgeous pour, orange-gold with a boisterous white head and endless lacing. Nice palate as well, lacking any trace of the ABV. Still wouldn’t drink it again.

Manoman is this beer not for me. Brown banana underlines everything, adding an overripe sweetness to the guava and passion fruit. Red pepper notes blend with a lengthy sourness. Grainy malts make for a solid base, but the banana ruins everything. Interesting pour, smoothie-ish in color and with all the head and lace of a glass of guava juice. Smooth, undercarbonated texture. Curious beer, but not in a good way.

Straightforward key lime gose, with a big tart lime front and a mild, grainy middle, all surrounding a baseline sourness. Sort of dies out towards the end, though, growing more bready than sour on the finish, with a slightly briny fade. Lots of lime, not enough gose. Pretty, though, and the sparkly texture’s good for the style.

The final in the trifecta of this beer from Chris. Pineapple mimosa with jalapeño. Best way to describe it (description stolen from Summer).
