Bottle at Delirium Ginza. Nose of orange, spicy, caramel, some chocolate. GLowing orange amber with a fine head. Minerally flavor, oranges, some spicy yeast. A bit of tartness. Nicely dry finish. Abv is a bit too high. Comes across as a slightly boozy Speciale Belge.

On tap at Watering Hole spring 2014. Hazy gold with small off-white head. Big fruity and floral hops on the nose: passion fruit, papaya, yuzu and some grain as well. Bitter on the palate. As it comes to room temperature some wheat notes comes out along with arugula and peppercorn. Nice long bitter finish.

330 ml bottle from Tanakaya@ Mejiro. This one is a collaboration brew with Evil Twin Brewing, made with traditional Japanese citric fruits such as yuzu, kabosu and sudachi. Sounds intriguing. Pours a bit hazy, pale yellow. Aroma is actually quite citric, as I could already guess, having also some skunky side, probably from hops. Taste has lemon peels, yuzu coming through with tongue-piercing acidity and bitterness. There is actually enough malt body to balance it out, so it doesn’t feel too one sided, only a bit - and it is acidic and bitter for sure. Very citric IPA, quite a Japanese take on the style. Would like to see experiments like this more often.

Draft @ ML Fontainas.

Draught at fontainas. Glowing orange with lace, oily looking. Citrus nose, bubble gum. Sweet fruity flavor, yuzu is there but not huge. Dry finish. Decent, pretty interesting.

Brewed in Belgium by Japanese is Rio Brewing’s tagline. On tap at GJBF 2013 in Osaka. Ryohei is their brewer and he brewed it at Struise in Belgium. He is a gypsy brewer & as Belgians couldn’t say Ryohei he named his brewery Rio Brewing Co. Uijin is Japanese for a samurai’s first battle & this is his first brew as a gypsy brewer, he’s a friendly guy. 5% A lovely cloudy gold with a nice foamy white head which stuck around as a thin layer on top. The aroma is a really nice belgian white smell, kind of spicy & sweet. The flavor is great, really fruity with a bitter hoppy finish to it.
