Description
Outer Range Brewing is a community-driven microbrewery in the small mountain town of Frisco, Colorado. Co-founder and Head Brewer Lee Cleghorn’s love of craft beer began when he lived in Belgium as a teenager, where the first beers he ever drank were world-class Belgian ales. That background has served as inspiration for his IPAs, which showcase the ester profile of these traditionally hop-forward beers. A graduate of the American Brewers Guild Brewing Science and Engineering school in Vermont, Lee runs Outer Range with his wife and co-founder Emily, who is the Chief Marketing Officer and leads the brewery’s branding, marketing, and sales efforts. They met while homebrewing beer together ten years ago, and today, brew for and with a passionate community who lives at the intersection of craft beer and the outdoor mountain lifestyle.

Pours a hazy, very light pineapple-yellow, with minimal head. Aromas of tropical and citrus fruit. Flavor is bitter citrus, with a light sweetness, and some pine/spruce hops in the finish. Very well-done NE-style IPA.

Taste at Trail's End. Pours a pale, hazy yellow, with a medium, frothy, white head. The nose is dust, cloves, orange peel, and hard cheese. Sweet and yeasty, with a sharp bitterness. Light body, with an effervescent, and lightly acidic feel. This is a mellow, yeasty, and aromatic IPA. Very nice.

Pours a slightly hazy, light peach-yellow, with little in the way of head. Aroma is dank and a bit on the cheesy side. Some touches of citrus and maybe a bit of tropical fruit. Flavor is bitter, with a slight sweetness. There's a grassiness and touch of biscuit at work, along with the expected citrus and tropical flavors. Maybe a touch of pine/spruce hoppiness in the rather bitter finish. Not bad.

Pours a hazy, light banana-yellow, with smallish head. Aroma has some fruit, some cheese (seriously, it smells a lot like Swiss cheese). Flavor is interesting. There's some real astringency there, with citrus, a slight sweetness, some tropical fruit, and some bite to the finish. It must be the Rakau hops, which I don't believe I've come across before. Very interesting and tasty beer and glad I have another one to savor.

Sample during Blarney Wine Festival 2018 on 03/17/2018. Slightly hazy pale golden color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Aroma of tropical fruit, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of floral hops, tropical fruit and biscuit malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a fruity hop aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Taster at the brewery. Pours a hazy yellow, with a small, white head. The aroma is papaya, dusty attic, agave, and leather. Sweet and fruity, with a mild, sharp bitterness. Medium body, with a grainy, acidic mouthfeel. This is a pretty nice, complex, and relatively malty IPA.

Taster at the brewery. Pours a light, cloudy, dull yellow, with a big, frothy, white head and lots of lacing. Big tropical aromas of mango and pineapple, with some cloves and biscuit dough. Sweet and sugary, with a mellow bitterness. Light to medium body, with a creamy, pulpy mouthfeel. This is a light and aromatic IPA, without much bitterness. Well made.

Sample on draft at Trail's End. Pours a dark, ruby-brown color, with a small, beige head. The aroma is black pepper, butterscotch, burnt toast, vermouth, and syrup. Not too sweet, and sharply bitter. Heavy body, with a sharp, acidic mouthfeel. This is a strange and unpleasant beer.
