Description
Kungsholmens Kvartersbryggeri is started in Stockholm by a group of beer enthusiasts and homebrewers. This is in response to the limited supply and the less flavorful beer. The brewery is named after the owner's childhood idol and grandfather, Nils Oscar.

In 2006 Nils Oscar outgrows the premises on Kungsholmen and the brewery moves to Fruängskällan in Nyköping, we feel at home here. When the brewery has reached its maximum capacity of 1,000,000 litres in 2013, another expansion starts, out with the old and in with the new. We now have a modern brewery and equipment that makes us very quality assured.

A red beer with a beutiful white head. The aroma is very hoppy with notes of roasted bread. The flavor is acidic hoppy with notes of grass, roasted bread, caramel, and a very dry and hoppy bitter end. This is very hoppy for being a Vienna, leans more towards an IPA. But it is a very nice brew.

Nut brown with a low head. Peculiar aroma of raspberries. Sweetish malt flavour with more raspberries and alcohol, maybe some yeast as well. Still a bit raw and unpolished but will improve with age.

[Vintage 2002] An amber beer with a fine though fast disappearing head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, prunes, mold, and smoke. The flavor is dominated by nice smoke but also sweet malty with notes of caramel. It finishes with hints of sourness. It has a good body. I really like this beer. Thanks to Per (Omhper) for trading me this beer - and thanks to Jacob Lövenlund and MartinKubert for sharing it with me.

(2001 vintage) Orange-ochre, clear beer; slim yellowish ring for a head. Grapes, raisins start in the nose, brandy-like, vanilla, young wood. Very vinous taste, like fortified wine, aged in young wood. Retronasal flavour of juniper berry. Definitely brandy-like. Well bodied, but lessened by the high alcohol content. Slick, oily feeling, again liqueur-like. Smooth - in the good way. Aftertaste almondy, slightly bitter. This is really the closest try to emulate brandy by a beer. Big thanks to J & Mr. H. who even thought of bringing me an aged sample.

(2003) Slim dirty brown head, on top of a beer that for all the world looks like Coca-Cola. Dark chocolate and forest fruits in the nose, Sachertorte. Very restrained bitterness for this - still lots of hops (specially retronasal) and roasted/burnt malts. Massive gravity, yielding lots of sweetness. Chocolate still much in evidence, some fruit. Full bodied, yet palate is not overpowering. Aftertaste gets more coffeeish and cigarette ash. Again, this starts out superbly, just to end a bit light. After all, 7% is not much for an Imperial Stout. I still remain a WWS 18%...

Deep mahogany; very little, yellowish head. Nose with toffee, caramel, fruitcake, liqueurish. Taste first bitterish as from fine roasted malts, biscuit or cake, faint fruity (cherry-ish) flavours. Some woody notes, too, and quite candi-sugar sweet at last. And then it went wrong. Rather thinnish mouthfeel - even seems bottom-fermented! Aftertaste gives a slight, sweet and oily sensation. It was nearly a perfect imitation of Belgian (strong) ale flavourwise (malts had Rochefort connotations). Then came that mouthfeel(palate). Belgian brewers brew to mouthfeel first. This is a marvellous though rather sweet drinking ale. Not something you sit back, relax and sip until the hammer comes down. Thanks all the same, J&M.

[Draft at Stockholm Beer Festival 2003] The aroma is sweet and malty - pretty simple for a Belgian ale. The color is a dark amber and it has a fine head. The flavor is very sweet and malty - it misses the complexity that a Belgium ale of 7% ABV should have, therefore I don't think of this as a Belgian ale - but it is still a good beer.

The aroma is malty with a good sweetness and strong notes of brewmash and fresh hops. The color is orange and it has a dense head, but very fast disappearing. The flavor is fresh and brewmashy with notes of grass and sweet malt. A very nice lager

Sampled draught at Stockholm Beer Festival.
Made partly with rye malt and fermented with belgan yeast, this christmas beer pours nut brown and forms a creamy head. Intense banana aroma. Sweet and vinuous, firm body with complex malt profile. Rich on toffee. Some light bitterness. Still a bit raw, but already superb.

Amber color with small frothy head. Malty beer, moderate sweetness, soft, with low bitterness, and sweet nuts. Not oxidized. Easy but nice.

Beautiful amber color. The aroma shows, initially, some sweet wood, then malt. The flavor is quite sweet, even without having a thick body; there is a pleasant mix of malt and caramel, and very light liquorice, but that’s pretty much all; soft Barley Wine, less malty than a good English one, and obviously much less hopped than an American one. The alcohol gives a light warming feeling only at the end. At least, it aged quite well.

Beautiful dark amber color. Sweet aroma, mature, a bit fruity. Very good body, malty, sweet, honey, with some caramel, low bitterness. Good but not enough bitter.

Hazy amber color; the head is not persistent. Strong aroma: malt, caramel, light phenol, cookies. Rich taste, malty, caramel; well balanced, mature. Finish with some liquorice. Pleasant one, but misses a bite. Thanks, Per!
