Description
Kungsholmens Kvartersbryggeri is started in Stockholm by a group of beer enthusiasts and homebrewers. This is in response to the limited supply and the less flavorful beer. The brewery is named after the owner's childhood idol and grandfather, Nils Oscar.

In 2006 Nils Oscar outgrows the premises on Kungsholmen and the brewery moves to Fruängskällan in Nyköping, we feel at home here. When the brewery has reached its maximum capacity of 1,000,000 litres in 2013, another expansion starts, out with the old and in with the new. We now have a modern brewery and equipment that makes us very quality assured.

Dark brown color; virtually no head. The caramel aroma is a bit nutty and oxidised. The body is lean, not as round as it used to be but smooth; strong caramel flavor, with moderate sweetness and hints of chocolate and smoke; the bitterness is quite low; there are traces of oxidisation but they are low as well. Past its prime, but still an enjoyable beer.

Dark amber color, with ruby shades; thick head, but reducing quickly.
Malt aroma, not really deep; a delicate roasted barley aroma.
Very interesting flavor, well balanced, round feeling, without being heavy; perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness. An original, peculiar note of roasted malt; a lot of caramel. It presents a roasted barley note, usually missing in the Swedish Julöl.
A lot of caramel in the palate, not too much hop.
Really interesting, but must try after some years of aging.

Almost black, no head. Mild aroma of cacao, chocolate. Soft mouthfeel; very little carbonation left; there's some dark caramel, burnt sugar, not much depth; no bitterness, apart from minimal ashes, and mild cardboards.
Not a standout, but it went downhill very slowly.

2009-02-11, draught at Glenfiddich Warehouse N. 68, Stockholm, 7% ABV, 8-5-8-4-17=42
Black color, creamy head. Mild coffeish aroma, a bit milky; later, light cheesy touch too; eventually, light Fernet Branca (Italian digestive). It has a medium body strength, with the mouthfeel getting rounder after the beginning; excellent flavor that happily marries chocolate caramel and roasted malt; balanced bitterness, and behind the dark malts maybe a good hop hides; milky feeling. Perfectly mature. Excellent.

2002-11-29, bottle, vintage 2001, 6.5% ABV, 9-5-8-5-17=44
Black color, brown cap.
Big aroma, of roasted malt, liquorice, coffee, chocolate.
Good body structure, rather dry; roasted malt, a lot of liquorice, coffee malt; unfortunately it's still a bit metallic, possibly would improve with age. Heavy bitterness, augmented by the roasted/burnt bitterness, as well.
Very good example, extra bitter stout, hiding well the alcohol content.

A slightly unclear amber beer with very little head. It has the distinct fruity aroma of an ale. The flavor is a little watery but with a good maltblend and lingering bitterness. The feel is silkysoft. I think that it is a little thin of an ale.

Beautiful amber colour. Original aroma of malt and other grains. Interesting flavour, of malt, quite aromatic hop, other grains (unmalted?), also similar to some bitter or Scottish brews. Well hopped palate, with pretty good aromas, but with a less pleasant dry bitterness at the very end.

Nice golden colour and fine perlage, but poor head. Quite nice malt and hop aroma, enough strong. Pretty sweet and malty in the beginning, with a strong body texture, then more bitter. In the palate there is a nice aromatic note of hop, but some residual sweetness and a too high bitterness don't convince me. As a bottled lager, it's still a good product.

[BOTTLED] Pours dark copper with a firm head. Caramel and hop aroma. Flavour starts with roasty, peaty, almost smoked malt and finishes with a long, hoppy bitterness.

Light fruity and malt flavour. Too much alcohol-flavor. Needs ageing........
