Fresh aroma of light citrus and a decent spicy rye, with background sweet malts to round it out. Medium, smooth body. The flavor has a noticeable rye bite that really chews at your tongue until the fruity hops refresh you enough for another gul. Top notch.

Draft. Brownish black. Nose of coffee, roast malts, chocolate and light sweetness. Taste is burnt malt, ashy coffee and general roastiness. Decent.

A hazed amber IPA with a thin off white head. In aroma, pungeant floral resinous hops over grainy malts. In mouth, a smooth and restrained hops, pver a nice classic malt base, loads of hops in retro-olfaction, quite nice. Cask at Get Real NY, March 19th 2011.

A clear brown porter with a thin moka head. A smooth coffee aroma with some light off herbal notes. In mouth, a bitter chocolate malt with nice Britsh hops, pleasant and smooth. Cask at Get Real NY, March 19th 2011.

A hazed straw yellow saison with a thin white head. In aroma, pleasant cloves, coriander and smooth hops. In mouth, a nice clean spiced saison, with nice cloves and prange peels, very nice. Cask at Get Real NY, March 19th 2011.

10oz cask pour, translucent, bright read with zero head. Great nose, candy, oranges, watermelon, flowers, honey, starfruit. Flavor is light malt, cherry, apple, watermelon, citra hops, light tropical fruits. Medium bodied, sweet, light bitter finish. Loved every bit of this.

Dark brown - semi-cloudy - clingy, sudsy lace - aroma is more like a porter - chocolate, coffee, roast all belie the intended style - just a hint of nuttiness falls in line with a brown - flavor is much the same - intense roast, vanilla bean, coffee, chocolate - if I close my eyes, I can trick myself into believing that it is a porter - again, some nuttiness - I have had enough of their beers now to notice a house character, including a particular yeastiness that works in some styles, but not in this one - semi-sweet until the middle and finish, where a fairly strong bitterness for the style develops - tobacco, char - full-flavored, if not completely to style - I like it, but don’t seem to love it as other raters do.

Growler from Big Z - consumed while watching Paul and Larry brew a batch (I am polishing off the last of the growler now) - pours a lightly hazy straw color, with a thick, lasting, soapy head - oh yea, that aroma is nice - earthy hops abound with citrus and pine notes - lots of herbal character in the form of sage and mint - some underlying pale malt sweetness - fairly sticky malt base at first, laying down a sweetness for the intense hop and rye character to cling to across the palate - strong hop flavor (earth, wood, grapefruit) - toasty rye - nice body to it - strong, bitter, herbal component through the finish that lingers long through the finish, as does a pale malt sweetness - freakin’ tasty.

Sampled at a tasting at Big Z in Huntington, NY - this brewer really seems to be doing a great job, but this one was a strike for me - super dry for the style and abv, which I am fine with - but there is a strong, artificial smoke to it, tasting like burnt rubber to me - had a hard time figuring out if some of this was from the yeast, but there was definitely some peat here - perhaps too much so - some nutty and fruity character - but the burnt eathiness was too much - I usually love smoke character in beer, but this was weird.

Sampled at a tasting at Big Z in Huntington, NY - has a fairly strong, american style hop profile for an ESB, tasting more like a malty APA, but still tasty - fairly dry, but there is a nutty yeastiness and a toasty bready malt base to compliment the dry character and spicy hops - good - probably would work really well on cask.
