Description
Daisen G Beer is a craft beer brewery located in Tottori prefecture, in the Chugoku region, just north of Okayama. Located at the base of Mt. Daisen, which is more commonly known as Hōkifuji in the area, the brewery opened in 1997 as an off-shoot of the sake producing company Kumezakura Shuzō and San-in Sanso Corporation, a company that deals with high-pressure gas. The local area is famous for its clear spring water, sourced from the snow at the top of the mountain, and its black soil, kuroboku in Japanese, which is said to be some of the most fertile in Japan. This fertile soil has resulted in Daisen G Beer being able to grow its own barley, in the form of Daisen Gold, in the spring; Daisen G Beer’s own hops, called Weihen Hop, which are harvested in the summer, and also Yamadanishiki, a sake yeast that is used in the production of the beers such as Daisen G Yagō.

@ GJBF 2007. Gold with a white head. Aroma is slightly hoppy, some toasty malts, and light floral notes. Flavor is similar, with some fruit tones thrown in. Light hop finish. Thought this was pretty solid.

Golden color. A touch of toasted malt. Moderate malty mouth with toasted malts, but nothing too special. Refreshing moderately bitter finish. Kind of like a toasted lager, but with a ale yeast and a bit heavier.

This beer didn’t hit any new territory and perhaps was a bit smokier than usual, but was an excellent example of an estery weizen with lots of bananas and cloves. All beneath a thick white creamy head.

Talk about going against the grain. Releasing an Imperial Stout just as temperatures hit 30 and humidity in the 90s. Love it. Dark brown color. Light brown head. Dark fruit, brownies, dark cherries dominate the nose. Med bodied with brownies, dark cherries, dark chocolate and oranges in the mouth. Lingering sweet brownies and cherries in the finish. Kinda reminded me of pouring liquid tooties rolls over some brownies.

Pours cloudy hay color with a medium, fluffy head. Aroma was banana, wheat, sweet malt, spice, and light yeast. Flavor of wheat, spices, banana, and clove. hides alcohol very well. Spicey finish. Effervescent, light body. Not overly complex, but a solid, good beer.

Golden color, huge banana, clovey nose. Comes across initally much more like a weizen. Sweet malty mouth, banana bread, cloves and plantaine in the mouth. Full bodied. Spicy clovey finish. Best beer I have had from these guys.

Pours copper with a small light tan head. Aroma is interesting for a barley wine. Citrus hops, sweet malts, alcohol, and caramel. Full, creamy body with a small, but nice, amount of carbonation. Flavor is dominated by the hops. Citrus bitterness through out this beer. Also peppery, caramel malts in the back, and alcohol. the finish is bitter with an alcohol warmth. Seems like a barley wine with IPA heritage.

Med amber color. The nose has apricots, cherries and puffed wheat. Alcohol is well hidden and the body is light despite being somewhat syrupy. Feels like a session brandy wine. Oranges wheaty finish. Interesting, but not over the top. Rerate Jan 2018 of a 2010 keg at Daisen tap takeover at Wiz. Dried cherries, strawberries, bread, stewed oranges, bread notes. Excellent. The mouth is fairly light with cherries and stewed oranges providing great depth. Low medium bitterness. Wow. This has aged well
