Description
Fort George Brewery + Public House sits on the original settlement site of Fort Astoria, founded in 1811. The oldest US settlement west of the Rockies, Fort Astoria was the Pacific Fur Company's primary trading post in the Northwest. Fort George opened its doors to Astoria as both a brewery and a public house, and that desire to serve the community continues to this day. The brewers and pub staff here share a common goal, to create a welcoming space where anyone in town can pull up a stool and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat. We take pride in our house-made offerings and our hospitality, and we’re always looking for improvements that bring us one step closer to perfection. It’s a goal Sisyphus could appreciate, even if he doesn’t have as much fun pushing that rock as we do rolling those kegs. And that’s why we like to call Fort George beer the best beer you’ve had today. Tomorrow it will only be better.

On tap at Brouwer's Caf for Big Wood '12, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of dry hops and wild turkey barrels upfront, seeming finally like a BA IPA where the hops are still prominent, no doubt due to the dry hopping. Flavour is likewise well-balanced between the dry hopping and the barrels. Again, an IPA that is well barrel aged without obscuring the IPA qualities. Good stuff, but doesn't hold a candle to the regular Vortex IPA.

Can 1 pt. Courtesy of byaeger. Pours a cloudy amber with a creamy off-white head leaving a little lacework. Nice citrusy hops in the nose. Fairly rich body, heavy on both fruit and caramel, but it’s really all a platform for the juicy and citrusy hops leading to a bitter finish. A very solid and fairly big IPA. 221112

16 oz. can courtesy of Sean and Amber. Perfect eye appeal. Hazy gold with a thin layer layer of head. Flavor is mild, light coriander with solid wheat character. Lots of sugar, I guess the candi sugar is the Belgian character. When it gets warm, it kind of smells like perfume. The lemongrass makes it a bit different as well. It’s ok.
