About
Founded as the Boulder Brewing Company in 1979 as the first craft brewery in Colorado; it started brewing the following year. In 1990, the company changed its name to Boulder Beer Company. In 1993 the company again renamed itself as the Rockies Brewing Company. In 2005, the company again changed its name back to the Boulder Beer Company.
In January 2020 the brewpub closed but through a new partnership with Sleeping Giant Brewing Company in Denver, who will continue to brew, package and distribute the Boulder Beer brands to the retail market, the brand will stay alive.

On nitro tap at Apex, pours a deep dark mahogany with large beige head. Aroma smells like pure melted chocolate. Flavour is identical, with high quality melted dark chocolate. Very smooth palate that makes this very easy to drink. Finishes with a slight astringency. Very nice albeit simple porter.

Thanks Brenda.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds. Light lacing stuck and then started sliding into the beer after a minute.
The smell had a decent amount of light sweet bready material with a slight Belgian sugary candy - ness inside of an earthy yet weird dried honey sweetness to allow a light spice to it.
The taste was mainly earthy, sweet and spicy.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. It came across slightly syrupy and the carbonation seemed fairly smooth and good for the style.
Overall, I say this was an okay Belgian ale. Whether it’s a saison or Belgian Strong Ale, this one is what it is - okay to me.

Thanks Brenda.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a soft golden orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a good minute leaving some light lacing all around the glass.
The smell started off with a sweet grainy wheaty citrusy aspect.
The taste was basically the same with a strong sweet orange aftertaste that led to a slightly watery finish (however, it seemed like a good watery).
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a good sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed a bit more there than expected but that could be due to the fact that the wheat seemed a bit more subdued.
Overall, if anything, this one definitely is a Summer beer as its fairly refreshing for the most part.

Hazy amber beer, small cream coloured head. Palate is light and crisp and fairly dry. Evaporating dry alcohol immediately obvious but there is no real heat. Sweet malts, repressed subtle hops. Tangy dried orange. Mild spice. Light dry finish. Very clunky and not easy to drink.

22oz bomber. Opened in September of 2014. Still holds up quite well. Thick, rich, full bodied Black IPA. Chocolate minty tinged rich specialty malt tones, true to style and delicious. Big beige head on top of a thick, brown-black body. Certainly an Imperial...viscous mouthfeel. Thick, steady hop bitterness..resinous..chewy. Good beer.
