Schooner on tap at New Farm bowls club. Pale amber beer with a thin white head. Medium carbonation. Nose is boiled rice, touch of pepper. Sweet, zingy, full bodied. Good lacing. Quite short finish. More grainy than I expect from a 'Japanese' lager.

From a 500ml can on 14/4/2019 (shared by Butz with thanks). Pours a clear amber with a medium head. Has a caramel and toffee malt nose. The flavour is very malty up front - caramel and toffee again, with lots or brown sugar and finished off by a firmish hop bitterness. Fullish bodied with moderate carbonation. A really well made, easy drinking, big malty brew with more than enough hops to keep it interesting,

From a 500l can on 17/2/2019 (shared with Butz). Pours a dark amber with a small head. Has a quite a strong caramel sweet malt aroma. Has a fair bit of caramel and dark fruit in the flavour, which is met by a modest bitterness, with a little sourness at the back. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Decent enough, but could use a touch more bite.

(On tap @ Embassy, Brisbane, July 15 2016) Pours black with a small lasting tan head and lace. Aroma of roasted, lightly burnt malts, molasses and toffee, tobacco, anise, sweet chocolate. Flavour leads with sweet treacle and molasses that is joined by balancing moderate roast, chocolate, lots of anise, leafy and slightly spicy tobacco, a bit fruity, even a hint of other spices? Finish has a touch of alcohol, some lingering sugar, anise and a bit of drying roast. Medium bodied with smooth and creamy carbonation, just a little alcohol. Not the most desserty of stouts, it’s got this interesting spice cabinet feel to it coupled with moderate roast. If not a massive standout, still a very nice brew.

(On tap @ Embassy, Brisbane, July 15 2016) Pours slightly hazy medium gold with a dense white head that left lots of lace. Aroma of mango, orange, grass, slightly resinous, quite light malty notes of caramel and cracker underneath. Flavour recapitulates the nose, with candied orange peel, mango, general citrusy notes, grass, slightly sweet and crackery pale malt. Finish is light to moderately bitter with grass and pith over a bit more cracker. Medium bodied with fairly high prickling carbonation. Very light on the malt body for style and flirting a bit with APA-like styling, but it’s clean and refreshing and hop-forward. Good easy drinker.

330ml bottle into schooner glass. Cloudy amber beer with a huge white head. Nice fruity aroma with a whiff of malt. Light body. Creamy, fruity taste. Finish has pineapple, bitter lemon, mango, caramel. Great refreshing beer, irrespective of the ABV.

On tap at Black Bunny Kitchen, pours a hazy amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma is quite jumbled, with bready malt, some minor diacetyl and a little perfumey hops. Flavour is also a bit jumbled, with bready malt, some caramel and a touch of hop resins. Not integrated well. Not offensive, but it's a long shot from the better imperial red ales from North America.

On tap at Black Bunny Kitchen, pours black with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and burnt coffee. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of burnt coffee and toasted malt. Dry and burnt. Not too bad, but seems a bit harsh.
