Description
The Brasserie d'Ecaussinnes was founded in 1999 by the Bruges couple Isabel & Hugues van Poucke. In 2012 the Chinese importer Xiaoning Yu bought the Brasserie d'Ecaussinnes from the Van Poucke's. Together with his friend and beer aficionado Michel Simon, he decided to invest in the former Brasserie d’Ecaussinnes. Substantive work was done to update the production and refresh the image of the brewery. In 2014, the introduction of a new team gave a young and modern dynamic to the brewery and the name was changed into Brasserie Scåssenes. In 2015, the brewery launched its own revolution….the 1830.

In 2020 after years of setbacks (the existing installations of the brewery turned out to be too old or too large; while co-investor Michel Simon left the firm) a new manager was appointed to put things in order. Brewmaster Jerôme, a medical biologist, keeps an eye on the fully automated brewing process.

Not much of an aroma, but a slightly hoppy flavor with some orange-like esters. Thinnish but fairly tasty for its modest ABV.

Dark brown, big frothy head. Pear drups and a hint of roast in the aroma. Caramel and ginger in the flavor. A touch of sourness. They should have warned me on the label. I don’t like ginger. Nevertheless a sweet, but fairly well made beer.

Corked bottle. Amber color. Pepper, ginger and marmalade in the strong aroma. Sugary sweet flavor with orange marmalade and ginger. Sticky mouthfeel, liquor-like, though not especially alcoholic. Too sweet to be really good.

1/XI/18 - 33cl bottle from a trade, shared @ Bosrijk Efteling, BBE: 2018 - (2018-1628) Thanks to Jerre for the trade!
SLOW GUSHER ALERT! Clear dark blond beer, huge creamy irregular fizzy aery head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: yeast, quite some banana, bit spicy, some fenugreek, infected, bit sourish? MF: very lively carbon, medium body. Taste: slightly sourish up front, lots of sweet malts, caramel, slightly fruity, hint of ripe banana, bitter, bit grassy. Aftertaste: fruity, malty, caramel, bit oxidized, some marzipan, sweetish.
