Pumped out of the beer engine at the Chophouse. Black, with some deep ruby tones. Big steady beige head. Pronounced vanilla and oak tones with some mellow alcohol warmth in the finish. Mellow cask feel, served at cask temperature. Brown sugar, very sweet. A pretty interesting beer, rather one-dimensional in that the bourbon really dominates and shines, lacks much depth beyond that.

Pitch black coloured body with a thin brown head. Very oily, viscous look with a pungent licorice and roasted malt scent and a little vanilla and a touch of oak. Full-bodied; Deep strong alcohol and roasted malt taste with a little vanilla and coffee noticeable and a strong licorice taste throughout. Aftertaste is quite strong and shows a lot of alcohol, along with a good bitter, yet nice finish. Overall, a good imperial stout from a brewpub and definitely nice that they have such an offering. Worth sampling if they have it available when you come in! I sampled this beer on draught, served in a snifter at the brewpub in Washington on 12-February-2011.

Nice hazy amber coloured body with a thick tan head. Aroma of strong hops, a touch of malt and a lot of caramel and nutty scents. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep pungent hoppy flavour from a herbal and grassy note more than west coast hops, but a good malt backbone and some light nut flavours make it quite complex. Aftertaste shows some good hop character and a little alcohol bite and some light sweetness at the end. Overall, a good IPA, especially for a brewpub, but not up to the hoppiness of a west coast IPA, but that’s expected. I sampled this pint on draught at the brewpub in Washington, DC on 12-February-2011.

A dark reddish amberalt with almost no head (cask). In aroma, rather sweet candy, cinnamon hearts, a tad cloying. In mouth, a rather lifeless light malt with faint wooden notes, rather boring and missing the point...an alt on oaks....On tap at ChurchKey DC, Sept. 18 2010.

Draught at Churchkey, an opening round gift from the staff, thank you gentlemen. Cloudy yellow, small white head. Pretty average slightly malty slightly bitter beer. Nothing special.

Draft at Churchkey. I’m basing the review from the order the bartender said the beers were, so I’m assuming they didn’t get the beers mixed up with the other two versions. This poured a clear copper color, small white head. Aroma was sweet, almost candy like. Flavor was a touch roasted, sweet malts, tinge of bitter hop finish.

cask draft @ Paradiso, DC. Collaboration ale, pours light copper, off-white head. aroma, lightly yeasty, notes of caramel malts, dark fruits. flavors, thin body, malty and grainy, touch of caramel, some floral hops, low carbonation (even for a cask), lingering bitter pilsner/dark crystal malts. Didn’t pick much of estery profile of the style, even the malt profile was lacking any character.

Draft at Pizzeria Paradiso. Apparently there are 3 versions of this one, each brewed separately (although to the same recipe) at Chophouse, Gordon Biersch and Capitol City. Cask. Clear amber color, thick but small off white head. Aroma of taffy. Taste is scotch, bitter. Thin body. Average.
