Muddy blond color. The aroma has some nice esthers, spices and banana. The flavor has a strong wheat character, but ends a bit metallic. It’s not my style, but it’s not bad.

With Amarillo and Simcoe, I’m told
Blond color, persistent perlage that supports a persistent thin head. Strong aroma, quite original, fresh, fruity, pink grapefruit above all. Light body and mouthfeel, almost a Lager or a very simple Ale, but with a fierce hopping, pushing the pink grapefruit in front, lean resins then, and even ending with a metallic touch. Unbalanced, but at least it’s hopped!

Served in a pint glass at the Chophouse in Chinatown, Washington DC. Pours a flat, opaque, oily black with a spitty, delicate slightly beige head. Aroma is all bourbon whiskey, slight grains, vanilla and oak. The aroma is a little intense and one-sided for me. Flavor is also very very boozy, oak, vanilla, bourbon, a little bit of toast and some licorice. Boozy heat on the end, thick and oily on the mouth. Serving this via hand pump and at ’cellar’ temperature (55 degrees or so) gets them an A for effort but overall this is too much. All that bourbon and oak leaves one missing all the best parts of beer.

2008-09-05, draught at the brewpub as Velvet (nitro keg), 5-3-5-2-10=25
Amber color with the obvious yoghurt-like head. It has some caramel aroma and flavor, of course with a smooth mouthfeel. Simple.

Amber color. Light hop aroma. Dry mouthfeel, quite good caramel flavor with a bit of a quality hopping.

Dark mahogany color. It has a light aroma of roasted malt. The flavor has well has roasted malt first, light caramel and ashes. Dryish mouthfeel, and makes me think an ashtray has been poured in the mash. Controversial.

2007-10-06, draught at the brewpub
Dark brown color; creamy head. Light caramel aroma. Dry mouthfeel, too weak, with some caramel flavor, and low bitterness. Boring.
