Description
Buckeye Brewing began brewing in 1997. The flagship beer, Hippie IPA, was first bottled in 1998. We are one of only three breweries bottling in Cleveland, OH. While well known for hoppy Pale and IPA, other styles shine as well. Buckeye produces everything from German-style Kolsch to Belgian-style Saison. Buckeye’s bottled products can be found in quality bottle shops across Ohio. Buckeye currently brews on a 15 barrel Century brew house. Stay tuned for updates on our front page.

Bottle. Poured a dark chocolate with a brown head that started at the edges and dissipated completely. Aroma was full of roasted malts with some dark fruits and a bit of dark grains. Flavor started with dark fruits that were joined by dark roasted grains with a bit of alcohol in the finish.

22oz bottle pours a transparent gold with a thin white head. Nice peachy aroma, tropical fruits, a touch musty. Flavor is sweet, oranges, clementines, a little peach. Medium bodied, crispy finish.

This was the last beer of the night (at least for me). I remember that it had a very nice aroma, and a decent complexity and character, but I didn’t write down enough details to know why I liked it, but I know I did!

Bottle courtesy of jslot38, thanks! Bright golden color. Nice aroma of pine and malt. Taste was ordinary and lager-like.

Bomber. Pours a medium brown (kinda dark, but lots of light gets through) with a pretty large head of froth and foam. Aromas are decent... lots of hops (pine and herbs) with a bit of a chocolate presence. Flavor is much heavier on the malt than expected... chocolate and roast seem to dominate, but there is a bit of a herbal presence that yields to a pine aftertaste that struggles a little to overcome the maltiness.

Sample from a bottle courtesy of JaBier at the Day Before Labor Day party. Pours black with a medium light tan head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt, citrus and hops. Full bodied with a roasted malt character along with notes of hops, chocolate, yeast and citrus. The finish is roasty with a mildly bitter hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Sample at Jackie O’s as part of Ohio Brew Week. The beer is a hazy orange color with a medium thin bone white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Citrusy hops aroma with some earthy notes. Medium body with flavors of toasted malt, citrus, hops and more earth. The finish is citrusy with a short hoppy aftertaste. Less hoppy than a lot of IIPAs, but above average overall.

22oz bomber scored via trade. Pours a hazy, orange, light caramel amber with a thin white head. The aroma is pleasant although far from exciting: flowers, lemons, some lime, a little caramel, a little metallic. Flavor is bitter, lemons, oranges, some dough, a little cracker. Finish is dry and bitter. The aroma is nice missing a little something. The flavor is definitely missing something.
