We started out in 1996 as a small group of San Diego home brewers who simply wanted to make a better beer. In our exploration, we became obsessed with ingredients—tinkering, testing and tasting to find the perfect balance of taste and aroma. That adventurous spirit leads to award-winning beers in classic and unique styles while challenging our own tastes and expanding yours. We’re proud of our San Diego hometown, our employees, our beers, and our fans. We think of our employees as family, and you, our fans, as extended family. Black with mediujm beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt and coffee notes. Sweet flavour with roasted malt chocolate and coffe notes.

Bottle from Olbutikken, Copenhagen. Golden brown in colour with a white head. It has a medium body and a lots of citrusy hop flavour.

Bottle. Golden-brown colour. Hazy. Smells caramel, hops and dried apricots. Taste is hoppy but not super bitter. Fruity taste of dried apricots.

Bottle as an extra from WeeHeavySD. Picture sent in. Pours with a dark brown head and a black body. Aroma of cocoa powder, florals, and dark fruits. Taste of tabacco, smoke, dark fruits, flowers, and the sugar of an unfinished beer with a decent amount of alcohol. Syrupy with a decent amount of carbonation.

Pours deep, clear amber into a shaker. Off-white head quickly recedes to skim surface. Malt and mild pine aromas. Sweet pine and resin upfront. Full-bodied with a lasting grapefruit finish. Very nicely balanced throughout.

Bottle, 22oz, at the European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. A clear, copper beer with a small off-white to beige head. Caramel, fruityness and citrusy hops in the aroma. The flavor is on the hoppy side with caramel sweetness to balance it. Somehow dryish, and a finish with caramel and lots of hops. Another pleasant amber, but it fails to bring out the great enthusiasm. (080912)

Bottle, 22oz, at the European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. A clear, dark golden beer with a small off-white head. Hop-driven nose with a nice blend of citrus, pinecones and resin. Malt in the background. The flavor goes in the same direction with the maltyness playing second violin, and it ends with a lasting bitter finish. Full body. Quenching, easy to drink IPA. Lovely. Rating: 7-4-8-4-15-3.8. 080912

Bottle, 22oz. It’s a slightly hazy, orange-golden beer with a finger-thick beige head. Malty-sweet nose with pinecones and citrus, grapefruit mostly. Sweet, pale malts in the flavor, beef-stock as well, with resins, pinecones and grapefruit. Not very bitter, the focus is on the fruity and piney flavors. Full body. A quite lovely one. 090828

Sample at Breakwater Brewing in Oceanside. This beer is a dark brownish-amber color with a thin and creamy off-white head that recedes slowly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Roasted malt and fruit in the nose with a touch of anise. Medium body with a roasty character, and flavors of bready malt, hops and caramel. The finish is malty with a lingering mild hops aftertaste. Decent all around.

Bottle, 8% at LCRBM08. Weak fruity aroma. Black colour, small brown head. Roasted and slightly sweet, well-balanced. Needs a bit of the carbonation swirled out of it.
