Description
Brasserie de Silly NV is still family-owned and is now in the hands of the sixth generation of the same family. The company is managed by cousins, Lionel and Bertrand Van der Haegen. Bertrand is responsible for production and Lionel looks after sales. Their parents, brothers Jean-Paul and Didier Van der Haegen are still active Board members. Brasserie de Silly has seen steady growth thanks to export sales and its quality image. Production in 2008 was 1,000,000 litres, but in 2018, 2,500,000 litres are expected to flow out of the tanks. Sales are on the up and up. Belgian beers produced in a traditional way are increasingly popular around the globe.

Bottle. Very cloudy golden colour, small floaties. No head. Weak fruity, apricot, syrupy aroma. Semi-thick mouthfeel. Sweet flavour. The sweetness seems to come from the rum, but without rum’s usual sickly tendencies. Candyish flavour, but OK balanced. big floaties at the bottom, creepy-looking, sperma/infection-looking things.

Crystal clear amber colour. Lasting thick white head. Caramel and boiled sweet/barley sugar aroma. Some peppery/spicey hop and bit of cream. Good toffeeish strong beer with some hop to balance. Its a bit boiled in the mouth, so not perfect, but I like this. Smooth and alcohol doesn’t spoil it.

Bottle: Orangey coloured, bigger rocky off-white head, hazy, lively carbonation; sweetish-fruity aroma (oranges, orange-peel); stronger sweetish-fruity flavour, velvet mouthfeel; shorter, fruity finish (oranges again), becoming a bit dryer towards the end; slightly tart and alcoholic aftertaste. Well rounded, warming brew, lacks a bit some bitterness...............

Bottled. Light golden with an off-white head. Mild, citrus aroma. Flavor has the same elements, with a yeasty character. Medium, sweet body. This beer could use some more character, it’s too thin and weak. (060210)

Bottle. Chestnut with white head. Fresh caramel aroma. I like the intense caramel in mouth with balancing hop finish. Fairly simple and basic, but for once the caramel/fude works. Nice
