( bottle) NB. I am not sure whether this should be listed as a different beer - same brewer, same name, but clearly a different recipe - my guess is that this is based on the very well received Rare Breed IPA special they did recently. Anyway... Clear golden brown with loose, short-lived beige head. Awesome aroma: intense and attractive - floral, citrus, pine. Light body, medium not very fine carbonation. Flavour is very pleasant and satisfying. The floral and fruity, lemon and pine notes of the hops are present from the start and overlay a nice gentle maltiness. At the finish the hops develop a distinct cleansing bitterness which lasts; it’s not overwhelming like many IPA/APAs. Overall a very pleasant beer.

(bottle) Poured hazy golden amber with decent off-white head. Beautiful aroma - floral and fruity - pineapple and passion-fruit. Wonderful mouthfeel - plentiful soft carbonation on a medium body. Flavour has a tangy fruity start (grapefruit, pineapple, passion-fruit) on some subtle undertones of sweet malt. This moves to an impressive, but not overwhelming, hoppy bitter finish. Overall, an excellent hop-driven IPA that doesn’t take things too far.

Bottle, 13C. Cloudy darkish amber with an off-white head - looks pretty like normal Hightail. Aroma of caramel, bread, prunes, flowers, pear drops, vague citrus. Mouthfeel creamy verging on syrupy. Very sweet before firm bitterness. Raisins, figs, brandy, toffee, spices. Boozy but not raw. Sweetness doesn’t linger too long and there’s pepper at the bitter finish. Pleasant with some depth to the malt flavours, but a bit untidy. Maybe it’ll come together with a little age.

Pours a hazy amber colour. Head is large and thick. Aroma is pine, tropical fruit and soap. Flavour is resiny pine, wood and grapefruit. Long and big bitterness. Mouth feel might be a bit on the thin side but it’s still a pretty good IPA.

(Bottle) Clear dark brown with beige head, initially big an loose settling to small, tighter and persistent. Excellent aroma in style of IPA with plenty of hops giving dominant citrus with notes of pine / resin, grass and toffee. Lovely mouth filling carbonation gives great mouthfeel. On the lighter side of medium bodied, but somewhat hard to judge in presence of fine carbonation. Flavour is very impressive. Starts with grapefruit citrus which stays clearly in the background as other flavours come to the fore. The tastes that develop include toffee, chocolate and coffee which develop into a long bitter finish. This is a well rounded bitterness with hoppy bite and darker black coffee bitter notes. Overall an excellent beer. Dark IPA seems to be in vogue and this is a very good example. It’s predominantly IPA but with lovely balancing roasted malt flavours.
