Description
Verboten, which opened in early 2013, is a true boutique brewery. The Sixteen tap handles, including one Nitro tap, rotate often so that new beers can be introduced every few weeks. The brewery also uses as much seasonal and local ingredients as possible in each of our handcrafted ales. At Verboten, we create unique beers taking typical beer styles and adding our own twist to make our constantly rotating selections new and exciting.

On tap @ Verboten. Pours a hazy orange appearance with a white head. Peach, apricot, hay aroma. Flavor is fruity (peach), somewhat spicy, bubblegum flavor. Refreshing. No hint of veggie. Done pretty well.

Growler @ Steve’s house. Pours a hazy golden orange appearance with a white head. Bright orange citrus, pineapple, juicy hoppy nose with a bit of grass and flowers. Weedy, herbal flavor. Lots of juice and citrus. Fairly dry. Solid.

On tap @ Verboten. Pours a deep brown with a thin head. Definitely some tannins, leather, and grainy oak in the nose along with vanilla, coconut, and some booze. Very light whiskey, dark grape, plum, leather, fig flavor. Finishes a little strong and boozy. Some chocolate and roast but really takes on a lot of tannins. Carbonation is a bit dull. Fine but not exactly my thing.

On tap @ Verboten. Pours a hazy golden appearance with a white head. Some spicy hops in the nose. Citrus, grapefruit, and biscuit in the nose as well. The hops are a bit spicy in the flavor but not too strong. Some citrus. Pretty sessionable. Light cracker notes. A touch soapy. Fine but not something I’d go out of my way to try again.

On tap @ Verboten. Pours a touch hazy golden appearance with a white head. Kind of a dull aroma with some sweet malts and light citrus with maybe a hint of butterscotch. Dull carbonation. I can’t quite tell if there’s a touch of diacetyl or not but the flavor is also kind of bland. Light lemon and orange citrus. Flavor dissipates quickly. Not much going on.

On tap @ Verboten. Pours a milky, dull peach appearance with a white head. Lemon, light berry, vanilla, and wheat in the nose. The fruity notes are apparent in the flavor but not super strong. A touch of funk in the flavor with slight berry juice. Just slightly tart. Easy drinking. Not overly complex. Probably sells pretty well.

On tap @ Avery Sour Fest 2014. Pours a cloudy light yellow appearance with an off white head. A touch of corn in the nose but not horrible. Some twangy lemony notes as well. The flavor also seemed to show the beer being a bit young. A touch salty, spicy, toasted cracker flavor. Slightly tart. Kind of watery. Not horrible but a bit bland.

Tap at the brewery - black pour - frothy lace - a nicely balanced, dry and roasty black ipa - despite some garlicky simcoe notes, there is a nice integration of dry, roasty, bitter dark malts and earthy, almost smokey malts - slight vanilla sweetness balances - dry, smokey finish - nicely done.
