From notes. Draft. Meh, this is probably my least favorite here. Relatively weak flavors of some grassy citrus and a little toasty malt. Drinksble, but nothing to bring home.

Taster at the Schaumburg RAM. Warm, slightly spicy malt nose. More roast to it than the Rabbit Punch I had before this. I think it gets more of the bite in its taste from malt than hops. Server wasn’t sure what style this was, so I was basing my expectations on something lighter than this style. Best match to the restaurant’s BBQ burger.

Draft sample at the Schaumburg RAM. More hop on the nose, and I also scent a bit of unfiltered yeast. Reddish amber in color. Tinge of roastiness to the taste, like a Vienna version of an English bitter. I seem to taste a few sharp US hops added to the main English hop load.

Sampler at The Ram, Schaumburg. A decidedly beginner’s level craft beer, but a style that often doesn’t hit the mark for me. Looks like their pilsener, just with a bit more foam clinging to the meniscus. A bit less sweet than the pilsener I had before this sample. Use of mostly US hops gives it a bit more contrast.

On tap at the Schaumburg Ram. So, does the local brewer have some latitude in the regular brews? Well, this taster glass was clear yellow, with a thin ring of foam. The smell was a little sweet; corny, perhaps? But the taste was decent. Light blonde malts; again, a bit sweet, but not as much as the nose suggested. Needs more of a German hop note. I found I missed the usual oxidation from bottles of imported Pilsners.

It pours a clear, dark golden body and a small, off-white head. The aroma is quite vinous, with some alcoholic scents. Some vanilla hints, as well as pale malt notes. Citrus peel too. The flavor has lots of impact from the wine barrels, with both alcohol, the vinous flavors and some wood. A touch of hay and grass chimes in along with the bitterness. It’s full-bodied and warming, with a pleasant carbonation. Lasting finish with a nice bitterness, a good warmth and some citrus. Although a bit warming, I really loved this one. 121110
