About
Grolsch was first brewed in Groenlo in 1615 by Willem Neerfeldt. Peter Cuyper, son-in-law of Neerfeldt, was appointed master of the Grolsche brewing guild in 1676. Cuyper died in 1684, after which his descendants continued the business. Until 1876, the beer was brewed in the center of Groenlo. In that year brewery 'De Klok' built a new brewery outside the city. In 1895 it was bought by Theo de Groen, a descendant of a Zevenaar brewing family.

The De Groen family has upgraded the company from 1968 from a local brewery to an international company. Until 2004, Grolsch was brewed in Groenlo and Enschede. Since 2004, both locations have been closed and there is a new brewing factory in Boekelo-Usselo.

On 19 November 2007 the board of Royal Grolsch NV accepted a €816 million offer for the company by SABMiller. The takeover was completed with the delisting of Grolsch's shares on 20 March 2008. SABMiller subsequently sold the company to Anheuser-Busch InBev and in April 2016, the latter accepted Asahi Group Holdings Ltd.’s offer to buy not only Grolsch but also the Peroni and Meantime beer brands.

Ik dacht, ik koop een lekker bokbieren bij de Vomar. Maar dat is schrikken, blijkt vloeibare appeltaart. Geur en smaak hebben niets met bokbier te maken, afschuwelijk.

0.3 l bottle from 'AH' (Den Bosch), best before May 2024. Clear, dark reddish brown with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish, malty, quite artificial aroma of caramel, brown sugar, nuts, cocoa and nutmeg. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, and rather artificial taste of caramel, nuts, cocoa, brown sugar, bread crust, raisins, cinnamon and nutmeg, followed by a short, moderately bitter finish. Thin to medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Crap.

300ml bottle [as Gerijpte Herfstbok]. Clear, auburn colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Weak, sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, hints of malt lozenge. Taste is sweet-ish and slightly dry, dark malty, hints of malt lozenge, a touch of rock sugar. Watery texture, slightly dry palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation. Simple and monotonous - so-so.

Bottle. Cloudy pale yellow with a super short-lived white head. Aroma of lemonade and artificial sweetener. Taste follows aroma as sad as that may sounds. No bitterness. Medium carbonation. This is only enjoyable when it’s freaking hot and you’ve been stumbling aimlessly around town for a few hours.

Bottle at home, golden beer, small head. Aroma is fruity, kiwi, gooseberries, yeast, malt. Taste is the same, dry, bitter, some berries/fruit but not much else... so the aroma is quite nice and promises a lot but the taste just does not deliver...
