Bottle in NYC, shared at Sander’s apartment while playing Scrabble. This bottle has no less than three years of age on it, so here we go. Pours clear gold with a white foam head. Bit of apple on the nose, also malt and hints of booze. Very sweet flavor, some cake, booze, apple. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warm finish, plenty of sugar and aged malts. Bad and mostly unenjoyable. Impressive, though, in some backwards way in that between five grown men we were unable to finish a single bottle. (2.0)

Bottle shared at Bruce’s. Definitely a lot better than the last bottle I tried. Lots of honey and apple in the nose. Sweet, boozy flavor, some rubbing alcohol, ripe fruits, grains. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Bland finish, light cereal. Not bad. Somewhat bland overall. (2.6)

My bottle doesn’t say anything about extra strong but it is the exact label pictured here, except it don’t say extra strong though it does say 7%. Smell is that of an older lager. Pour is pale yellow. Taste is that of beer laced with cheap whiskey. Wew. Yes, all the attributes of rude cheap high alky american lager but its made in the phillipines, eh. Difficult and at times almost triggers the gag reflex, but not quite full out. Decent carbonation for such a high alky beer. Yep, the finish reminds me of a mild boilermaker if you know what that is. I think I’m getten a little buzz off this 12 oz bottle.

bottle pours dark brown with a rocky tan head that laces well. Aroma is sweet roast, a little chalky with thin fruity yeast notes. Flavor is light roast, coffee and a bit metallic in the finish but not bad.

The higher alcohol content gives it some taste over the other san Miguel varieties in Philippines, but it’s pretty average in the grand scheme of things. Good beer to liven up the action at a Philippino cock fight.

Very average. Unremarkable, no characteristics, no defining taste or smell. Just watery grain alcohol. The beer isn’t light in alcohol, apparently it just has less calories, and though the brewer’s pale pilsen is slightly better, it’s not that much better - you might as well drink the light in Philippines where San mig is the only choice anyway.

I had this in Manila and was annoyed because they have a virtual monopoly there and I could never get much else. Now in Thailand I appreciate it much more than the local competition.... no bad aftertaste, a bit a weird tang that last a half second but it isn’t necessarily unpleasant. Smell’s not horrible, promises more than the beer delivers

Canned (thanks Timo A!). Golden colour, small head. Aroma is malts, rice and some slight notes of earth and herbs. Flavour is quite much the same. Refreshing, though it’s a bit dull.
