Description
This team of owner-operators was formed shortly after the group realized they all were after the same thing, just in different parts of the province. Brewer John Folinsbee was planning a brewery in Squamish, industry veteran Marc Roberts had his sights on Vancouver while entrepreneur Ben Reeder and builder Adam Steinberg were looking at brewing in the Cowichan Valley on Reeder’s hop farm. After tasting John’s recipes they decided to go all in and combine forces to build the 6000 square foot brewery, tasting room and kitchen in Squamish.

On tap at Darby’s, pours a clear dark amber with a small beige head. Nose has toasted bready malt, maybe a hint of dusty nuts. Flavour is soft, with bready malt, light sugars, some earthiness. Not a particularly pleasant malt character, a little clumsy, and just uninteresting. Meh.

Opaque. Medium head. The usual Backcountry full body, moderate bitterness, light hop burn and pine accent with mild grapefruit. Not a ton of variance on Backcountry hazies but are any better than Widowmaker?

Black, fast fading brown head. Boozy chocolate nose, spice notes. Palate of coconut/chocolate/pepper/wood. Sweet with harsh alcohol heat that detracts. Poorly blended

Kind of a dull hazy appearance. The aroma is bright, however, with stone fruit and some tropical notes. On the palate, however, it's thin. There's very little malt propping this up. The hop bitterness is also lacking... this just feels really weak, and ultimately the lack of sugar or bitterness fails to provide adequate support for what would otherwise be some decent hop notes. Is their flagship pale still their best?

Gold, fast fading head. Light spicy/sweet nose. Not much here except an odd spicy lasting bitterness. Poor looking and poorly balanced... poor effort overall
