This team of owner-operators was formed shortly after the group realized they all were after the same thing, just in different parts of the province. Brewer John Folinsbee was planning a brewery in Squamish, industry veteran Marc Roberts had his sights on Vancouver while entrepreneur Ben Reeder and builder Adam Steinberg were looking at brewing in the Cowichan Valley on Reeder’s hop farm. After tasting John’s recipes they decided to go all in and combine forces to build the 6000 square foot brewery, tasting room and kitchen in Squamish.

Dark brown. Just a thin head. Moderate thickness. Boozy, kind of headsy alcohol attack, leading to a butter rum sort of finish. Same base impy as the other Backcountry ones heavy on brown sugar notes and fairly simplistic), but this treatment isn't to my taste.

473mL can, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of molasses, plenty of rum / liqueur barrels, booze, and a hint of tart dark sugars. Flavour is sticky and oily, with an almost tart rum barrel, molasses, dried dark fruits, and some sugars. Pleasant rum character — not too boozy, with a nice molasses character on the finish. Very good.

473mL can, pours jet black with a small brown head. Aroma brings out lots of bourbon barrels, moderate roasted malt, and some dark sugars. Flavour is rich, with intense burnt sugars, bourbon barrels, moderate-to-heavy roast, and burnt caramel. Roasty and barrel-heavy. Excellent.

473mL can, pours jet black with a tiny light brown head. Aroma is full of rich coffee and bourbon upfront, accentuated by vanilla beans — not getting the coconut. Flavour is rich and decadent, with intense bourbon barrels, coffee and coconut in wonderful cohesion. That coconut is certainly more apparent on the flavour than the nose without stealing the show. Rich, elegant and intense without in any way being brutal. Oily, lightly boozy finish. Lovely stuff.

473 ml can. Pours black with short dark tan head. Initial strong rum aromas settle to dark chocolate, fudge, almonds and slick roasted malts. Flavors of rich nutty dark chocolate, vanilla, sutble rum and oily roasted malts.

Can. Inky black pour. No head. Toasty, lots of coffee on the nose. Sweet, with abundant coffee, good coconut, soft dark sugars. Rich, the vanilla providing a little bit of roundness.
