Description
This team of owner-operators was formed shortly after the group realized they all were after the same thing, just in different parts of the province. Brewer John Folinsbee was planning a brewery in Squamish, industry veteran Marc Roberts had his sights on Vancouver while entrepreneur Ben Reeder and builder Adam Steinberg were looking at brewing in the Cowichan Valley on Reeder’s hop farm. After tasting John’s recipes they decided to go all in and combine forces to build the 6000 square foot brewery, tasting room and kitchen in Squamish.

On tap at Steamworks - Mt Pleasant, pours a cloudy dark amber red with a small white head. Nose is full of watermelon fruit punch, lacto, and artificial sugars. Flavour is artificial, with lots of sugary watermelon and a touch of lacto. This is ridiculously gimmicky, sweet and unsophisticated macro bullshit. Terrible.

473mL can, pours a clear pale yellow with a small white head. Nose has gentle spicy Saaz hops, crackery malt, and a touch of straw. Flavour has a reasonably spicy Saaz hops, crackery malt, straw, and a lightly sweet cereal malt finish. I’d like more hops and more bitterness and more crispness, but it’s reasonably constructed. Solid enough.

On tap at The Barley Merchant, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Aroma has some oniony hops, light pine, some citrus tang, and biscuity malt. Flavour is crisp and biting, with piney hops, citrusy notes, a little onion, and crisp biscuity malt. Finishes with hop tang, bitter pine, and crisp biscuity malt. Pleasant for something with such hops.

On tap at Barley Merchant. Pours hazy blonde with a white head. Lots of clean hops on the nose; the allium from the citra and some clean pine from the krush are coming through well. Flavour has a very nice hop expression, the citra and krush are working together well. This is very nicely done.

Pale, maybe some chill haze but otherwise bright. Big floral, honeyish aroma of NZ cascade, with more of those citra alliums in the finish. Moderate bitterness…the malt is on the sweet side so I would prefer more hop bite.

473ml can. Pours an opaque yellow orange with some floaties and a small, foamy, short lived, off-white head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet fruity aroma of bready pale malt, passionfruit and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of bready wheat malt, lactose, passionfruit, mango, guava and floral hops in a tart, slightly acidic finish. Medium body with a thick, creamy, smooth texture and average carbonation. Juicy and delicious.
