Brewery Martens has been in business for 260 years. Throughout our rich history, which remains embedded in our native town of Bocholt to this very day, the brewery has always remained in hands of the Martens family. Yet, while we put great store by our family history, all eight generations of the Martens family have also continuously been driven by innovation and state-of-the-art processes, which is what has made us into one of the most modern and innovative breweries in the country today.

# 2521; 7/2021. Fresh lemon juice aroma. Briliant pale gold body; white head. Extremely sweet, fizzy drink-like, watery, lemon, empty finish, crispy. Weird sweet lemonade than beer. 0,5 l, can, gift.

500ml can from some place that was instantly forgettable, unlike this beer. Poured a light golden straw colour with a very short-lived fizzy white head and masses of bubbles. The aroma is gluey toffee and alcohol. There’s no room for anything else. The flavour is strong sweet with a big burning floral boozy alcohol palate. Medium to light bodied with very lively carbonation. This beer has been in my fridge for 2.5 years. Can you imagine the number of times I’ve seen this beer in that time and ignored it, preferring to drink something a little more sensible instead? It’s said that beers have feelings too and if that is indeed correct then I’ve clearly ruined this one’s life! Every time the fridge door opened, I swear I could hear it say “me next, it’s my turn, please sir”. Alternatively it could have been a squeaky fridge door that I easily remedied with a quick squirt of WD40, but let’s just say it was the beer! It surely got its revenge though for all those years of neglect. It’s so so sweet and it burns, then it burns again and then it burns some more. I do believe I could have used this stuff as a paraffin substitute. One day I might fall on hard times and be found sitting on a park bench somewhere, wondering how it all went so horribly wrong. If that should ever happen, then please rest assured that you won’t find me drinking this stuff! I’ll surely be supping a relative world beater, like Carling or Stella!
