Draft at FB, Off, buttery, this brings me right back to WI. I have no idea how you could make a beer this crappy and actually sell it. Disturbingly off, burnt sour buttery infection. This beer really sucks, certainly doesn’t get the job done. This is the kind of crap you’d expect from a small system brewery. Bad.

Just brought on at the brewpub. Chunky orange-brown. with a respectable beige head. A nicer, fresher aroma than the Red Dawn..this is more in the lines of a big west coast amber. Thick and chewy, this has a lot of caramel malt depth and a good piny hoppiness. Still has some woody, cherry, sherry amber malt notes, with that classic pungency. Not exactly world class stuff, this still lacks some cohesiveness. Has a soapy, grapefruit flavor among the thick malt bill. OK.

Draft at Funky Buddha. Deep unfiltered amber brown. Massive head, partially just a bad pour. Soapy red, not so impressive. Big amber malt flavor,,,woody sugary cherries. This really doesn’t all come together if you ask me, sort of watery, and the minimal hops are covered up don’t really meld well with the overbearing amber malt. Like a homebrew Canadian Amber. Unimpressive.

Draft at Funky Buddha. Brown-black with a rusty beige head. Rich lactic tones, very much in the Caribbean style of Stout. Sweet and milky, a pretty solid example of the style. Rich, sugary chocolate and some faint sour milk notes. Well done.

Draft at FB. Hazy golden tan, unfiltered...not much head. Pronounced passionfruit aroma and taste, quite tasty and aromatic. Very drinkable and fruit forward, this is a very nice and refreshing beer. Slightly tangy, with a golden malt backbone. Very clean,

On tap at Funky Buddha. Chunky, thick brown-orange with a thin, soapy head. The aroma doesn’t really jump out at you like youd’ expect from a 90 IBU IPA...some odd buttery off tones actually. Im guessing this beer is a little off, but is tolerable because of the big hops. Definite burnt buttery ringwood flavors. Not really good at all, the buttery malt tones are approaching rancid. I’d hope this is an off batch, and they didnt want to dump all that money down the drain. Disappointing.

Draft at Funky Buddha. Deep brown black, some faint light creeping through the corners. Respectable deep rusty beige head. Oily chocolate hop aroma. Fluffy unfiltered body, quite rich. Big, thick chocolate tones, quite roasty. A pretty solid example of the style, easy on the palate despite the specialty malt overload. Not overwhelmingly peppermint patty-like, but certainly still true to style. Very fresh. Quite sugary, the roastiness really makes this one close to a Stout.

Draft at Funky Buddha. Looks filtered to me, which is odd for a Hefe. Orange-yellow with a small, foamy white head. Really clean and well done, fresh and zesty. Orange banana and a nice balancing clove bite. The adjuncts really give it some depth and flavor, but it remains a highly sessionable medium bodied beer. Loses a few points for not really being true to style, but gains them right back for being tasty.

Hand bottle @ Papsø. Pours a dark amber brown color with a small off-whit ehead. Has a roasted malty coffee aroma with hints of chocolate. Sweetish roasted malty coffee and chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty coffee and chocoalte finish.

Thanks to beerman6686, I had an opportunity to try this at the 2nd Pgh Tasting on the 2nd. It was from an unlabeled big brown bottle. Looks like cream soda and has a head like cream soda too. The big head fades but it leaves a continuous quarter inch layer. Has a somewhat flowery sweet perfumy aroma about it. Perhaps the aroma is even a little alarming. Taste is not as strong as the 9.2% would indicate and it hides its alky content well. Flavor is quite unique; rootbeer, birch beer perhaps even clove in there. Funky fer sure but not in a lambic kinda way. Again, no way is this 9%+! Odd things in the taste of this barefoot buddha buddy. Rather mild but yet leathery at times. Finish is almost soda pop in nature. Not bad overall. Either I am becoming null to these high alky beers or perhps these beers are just getting better. Big thanks to Dan for the chance to taste this muthhah buddah.
