Draft at Varietal. Nearly black with a thin brown head. The smell of vanilla and bourbon barrel is outstanding. Good depth of flavors with a heavy roast, earthiness and faint bitters to balance with the vanilla and bourbon sweetness. Excellent beer.

Pint at the brewpub. For my first Varietal beer served at the source, going with a west coast hop monster seemed like the obvious choice. Copper color with a creamy head, aroma is hop forward with piney and citrus goodness. The taste is an aggressive, yet approach level of bitters with a slight sweetness. Mostly piney and dank, faint citrus and a barely noticeable malt bill. Very good.

Medium amber with some haze, and no head. It's sticky, light toffee, vague fruitiness. There's a bit of oak in the finish, but not much. It's good beer, but it definitely tastes American...not even sure what that means but it's doppelbock and not at all German.

500mL bottle, pours a hazy amber with a small beige head. Aroma is full of oak, dark dried fruits, and bready caramel. Flavour is malty and fairly dry, with oak, bready malt and some toffee. Pretty simple, though the oak adds a nice dimension. Pleasant.

500mL bottle. Pours murky amber with a small white head. Light brown sugar, chewy bread malts, and a touch of glue on the nose. Flavour has bready malts, sugars, and some more glue. Aside from that glue character that's floating around it's pretty good.

4oz pour at Chuck's Greenwood. Pours clear blonde with white head. Aroma is very woody, some pine. Flavour has a ton of bright, woody pine, fresh grass. Wonderful hop expression. Very enjoyable.

Poured from 473mL can (this year's can lists 6.7% abv). Clear blonde gold with small white head. Skunky dank aroma. Biscuit malt with mild pine hops and a slight dankness. Decent.
