Hazy amber colour. Aroma of bubblegum phenols and star anise. The flavour is heavy on the anise with some caramelly malts. Low bitterness. Moderate to watery body. Alcoholic finish. Kwakish.

Slightly hazy dark straw colour. Sweet, oily, and slightly perfumey. Hints of banana. Light diacetyl. Combines light hefeweizen notes with the lifeless, slick mouthfeel of a Soviet-style lager. Disappointing - Dave’s seasonals are usually better-made.

Opaque orange/amber.Small head, good lace. Slightly flat.Peppery nose. Peppery, yeasty palate. Sad to say but probably the best of a very average lot at the caskival

Shimmering light amber colour - nice and cloudy. Sweaty, slighlty spicy aroma with lots of coriander. Light malty body with lots of coriander and cardamom. Manages to be both unbalanced and restrained at the same time. It’s a beer that doesn’t go for major gusto but hits with spices that could use a few weeks to mellow out. Dryish, spicy finish. Also, the cask-conditioning doesn’t really work. It needs more carbo and a cooler serving temperature, especially in the hot summer. I’ll be at the brewpub later this month anyway so I’ll revisit the issue at that time.

Bright golden-amber colour. Slight aroma with weak esters (apple), caramel and toast. Malt-accented with earthy hops and a toasty yeast note. Dry, slighlty woody finish. Similar to Anchor but not as fresh-tasting.

Dark straw/amber colour. Almost whiskeyish aroma (lowland malt). Fairly light character, very toasty. Lots of cocoa. Interesting, if nothing else. A really odd beer even ignoring that it’s in an IPA competition. Not bad overall, though.

Light amber colour. Light, slightly malt-accented aroma and flavour. Not much going on, just knock it back I guess.

Murkily opaque brown colour. Alcoholic aroma with nutmeg and phenols. Starts chocolatey and candyish but quickly turns yeasty and alcoholic with bubblegum esters and sweaty yeast notes.

Brown with short lived beige head.Light malt nose. The light maple/malt taste is starting to turn (vinegar) A poor effort from the poorest Brewpub in the lower mainland.
