Description
Maui Brewing Company was founded by Garrett Marrero and Melanie Oxley. They started as a single brew-pub, a small restaurant that served its own locally brewed beer in January 2005. Demand for the beer outgrew the space available in the brewpub and in 2007, Maui Brewing Company started producing and packaging beer out of a separate production facility. In 2012 Marrero and Oxley opened yet another larger production facility, which increased their capacity from 18,000 barrels of beer to almost 40,000 barrels.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a hazy tangerine color with a thin off-white head that evaporates to nothing quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of tropical fruit and wheat. Light body with a fruity character that does have some mango and melony notes, along with a touch of spice and wheat. The finish is fruity and clean with a sweet finish. Slightly above average overall.

Can at SBWF. Slightly hazy golden with a medium white head that did not last for long. Pleasant aroma of fruits, grass and some light malt. Refreshing taste of grapefruit, medium body. Finish was quite bitter. Nice beer without being extreme. My first ever beer from Hawaii.

Can, which says brewed with Pineapple Juice, sounds like a fruit beer to me (listed as a Wit right now). Pours with a murky golden body and a small white head head that fades. Aroma of coriander, wheat, canned pineapple, cardboard (not oxidation), husky grains, medium esters. Taste is pineapple, husky, wheat, cardboard (not oxidation), corn nuts, and lavender. Medium to light bubbles. Dry finish. Not as good as any of Maui’s other canned offerings in my opinion.

Can from South Bay Drug. Pours really hazy gold with a 2 finger coarsely foamy off-white head. Aroma has that acidic pineapple note. Medium with coarse carbonation. Flavor is pretty much pineapple. Not sugary canned, not overripe fresh, but that acidic not quite ripe stuff. Along with some brown sugar notes. It’s a bit wheaty, but not enough to be bothersome. Imperialize it and age it in a fresh acacia barrel. Bavoom!

Can. An unclear amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma has strong notes of hops as well as notes of malt, grass, and grapefruit. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and hops - the latter lending it notes of grass and grapefruit, leading to a dry and bitter finish. Nice.

12 oz can into lager glass. Thanks, Brenn79. Aroma is pineapple, honeyed cornbread, citrus powder drink. Very aromatic for this style--I was expecting blandness. Pours a clear to just slightly hazy gold hue with a thick two-finger head with nice retention. Leaves a constant scrim and collar of foam after a few minutes when it dissipates. Taste is sweet and a little salty. A little fruity and much more interesting than most examples of this style. Medium to high carbonation with a medium body. Extremely quaffable beer made for the beach.

Can thanks to Wavers1. Pours brownish black with creamy tan head. Nose is roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee and hint of coconut. The toasted coconut really comes out in the taste and has a very strong presence combined with chocolate and roasted dark malts. I don’t really like coconut, but I thought this was a very tasty and solid porter.

Can at Brewforia, Meridian, ID Clear dark brown with a small quick off-white head. Sweet chocolaty malty aroma with some totsie rolls thrown in. Tastes roated and chocolay. The coconut is not overpowering, which is nice. Novelty flavors like that tend to be front runners instead of a supporting role. This one is nice. Lacking much of porters generaly have. A touch st sour acidic character. A litle sweet and very drinkable.
