With humble beginnings in a locked shack hidden in the middle of the woods, Iron Goat has always kept a personal, hands-on approach to their beer. Constant experimentation with hop choices and seasonal ingredients has kept their passions strong. In an effort to ensure flavors are at their best, they constantly taste test the batches. Bomber from the grocery store. Aroma is bready, perfumy, grainy, herbal, caramel malt; smells like it’s past its prime--can’t find a date anywhere on the bottle. Pours hazy cantaloupe with a medium bone white lacy head with good retention. Taste is better than the aroma with medium level bitterness backed by some candy corn-like malt sweetness. Still, with that off-putting aroma, this is below average. I’d like to try it fresh from the source. Edit: this really doesn’t hold up. It’s gotta be old. Lowered taste score down to a 4 (from 6) and overall to a 9 (from 12).

Bottle from Jake65. Big, heady aroma, normal taste for the style. Cool name and label.

On tap at the brand new Growler Guys CDA. Fresh piney, woodsy hop, bready aroma. Filtered golden pour; large white long lasting head with awesome sheeting lace. Lightly bitter, a little sweet. Very fresh. Nice beer. Not really an IPA with those IBUs and ABV though; more like an APA.

Bomber bought at Super 1 in Rathdrum, ID. Aroma is packed with pine and a candy sweetness. Pours hazy amber with a two finger beige head with great retention; leaves nice lace. Taste is much milder than the aroma let on. It has a medium-high bitterness and a licorice-like flavor. Alcohol is hidden extremely well--it drinks like a straight IPA. Nice enough, but the aroma was really great and the flavor was a little bland.

On tap at Brouwer's Cafe, pours an opaque orange amber with a small white head. Aroma is very sweet, with cloyingly sweet caramel malts and just enough hops. Flavour is slightly more balanced, with sweet caramel malts and some faint hops underneath. Quite harsh and almost barleywine-ish. Meh.
