Cask at Merton Beer Festival Saturday 28th February 2015. This beer was so, so lively from first pour until last. The first beer to run out it was probably popular because it was a very easy drinking drop that wasn’t assertively hoppy. It looked lovely on the pour, a little snowstorm of effervescence slowly settled to show a gold/amber beer, good clarity. In the mouth it was a bit too sweet, malty as opposed to hoppy. Cask handpump at the Beer Emporium, Bristol, Saturday 4th January 2015 Another beer that I have had to add and therefore looking at the description struggled to categorise. In good nick, appeared light amber with slim off-white head, good hoppy bite but tempered with a malty edge, (hadn’t realised there was wheat at time of drinking). A pleasant enough beer but the New Bristol Supernova reigns supreme here. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Gravity dispense at Pigs Ear ’14, day 1, 02/12/14. Very lightly hazed golden blonde with a moderate off white head that retains well. Nose is citric sherbets, pale malt, straw, caramel, light vanilla. Taste comprises lemon rind, citric pith, light spice, toasted bread. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Ok golden blonde affair.

Bottle from brewer’s own stall at the Thame Food Festival. Deep gold with a lasting white head. Reasonably resinous mouthfeel with a light fizz that suits the beer. Really nice apricot and sweet grape up front. Light biscuitty malt behind before a heavy-handed pine bitterness bulldozes through the lot. There’s a little floral dryness in the finish but really the bitterness is too much and kills off the other flavours. Still a decent beer, but could have been much better.

Cask (South Western Arms, Southampton) - Dark brown with red tinges. Roasted malt, chestnuts and chocolate feature prominently in both the aroma and taste.

Cask pint on 20th Dec 2014: The Crown Inn, Oakengates. No mention of XT brewing on the pumpclip, annoys me. Anyway the beer poured a slightly hazy golden colour with a full head of white foam. The aroma was semi-fruity and leaning towards a bread maltiness, hints of citrus too. The flavours were a lot more citrusy than the nose intimated and the taste was almost tart at first. The malts arrived later to calm the beer down nicely and although the hops gave a good dry finish the beer seemed a good blend of flavours to me.

Cask, handpump at St Aldates Tavern, Oxford in company of Grace after works Christmas meal, Thursday 18th December 2014. Pours dark brown with a scattering of light beige bubbles. Pleasant stout that offers a good fruity bite and jolly good hoppy bite amongst the dark roasty malts. Really likeable. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4
