Description
It all began when Jan-Léonard Moortgat and his wife founded the Moortgat brewery farm in 1871. Around the turn of the century, Moortgat was one of the over 3,000 breweries operating in Belgium. Jan-Leonard experimented by trial and error, and his top-fermented beers were soon greatly appreciated in the brewery's home town of Puurs and far beyond. Before long, the Brussels bourgeoisie was also won over by his beers. Business was booming and Jan-Leonard's two sons, Albert and Victor, joined the company. There was a clear division of labour: Albert became the brewer, Victor was responsible for delivering the beer to Brussels by horse and dray. In 1923 the production of Duvel began with just a few crates. Today, Duvel is enjoyed literally all around the world (in over 50 countries) by countless beer lovers. The beer is still brewed with profound respect for the original recipe and the time it needs to mature

Can 33cl. from a local AH supermarket @home poured into a footed pilsner glass. Clear pale golden colour, tall frothy white head, disappears quickly, light lacing. Aroma sweet malt, bubble gum, sugar, grain. Lemonadish taste, above medium sweet and almost no bitterness, maize, sugary, lychee, spicy notes. Light to medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, sweet sugary aftertaste, metallic notes, something to forget quickly.

Backlog November 2013. Clear, pale golden body under a big, creamy white heat. Lively carbonation. Aroma is a bit mild with tropical fruits, grass and chewing gum. Taste has mild, smooth pale malt, mild citric fruit, grass, white sugar and medium bitterness. Medium body and average aftertaste. Decent, but I prefer the original Duvel.

Draught at Lauter, small stable bubbly head, clear and a touch light yellow colour, light mineraly fruity aroma, light flavor of peach apple and orange with a bit of maltiness behind, light to medium mellow herbal bitterness. Surprisingly nice and drinkable on the light side.

330 ml, bottle.
Pours pale straw, with medium white head. Nose is your usual tripel with lots of alcohol, flavor is hops, medium sweetness, with a pleasant coconut finish. Moderate body and high carbonation. I really liked this beer!

Pours a clear yellow-gold color with a large white head and great retention. Good lacing. Belgian yeast aroma. The taste follows the nose, with Belgian yeast flavor leading the way and a mildly boozy finish. I'm not a fan of this style, but this is better than average for the style. Medium body and medium carbonation. Low bitterness. The 8.5% ABV is warming, but not aggressive.
