Clear dark amber beer. Smooth palate with mild carbonation. Smooth malt, trace of toffee. Rich marmalade hops with lesser red berry fruits, pine and grass. Finishes slightly gum numbing. Not bad.

Aroma: The nose is clean and malty, some bread/toast, a little caramel, and some hops
Appearance: It pours a deep golden-amber color, some nice, frothy head, and decent lacework
Flavor: The flavor is clean and malty, not too sweet, well balanced, with a good lager flavor
Palate: It has a clean, crisp mouthfeel, a light-medium body, smooth and very easy drinking
Overall Impression: This is a really well-made sessionable lager. I was impressed by this one. In general, I've been impressed by Karbach. Sometimes I think if a brewery can make a good Lager that shows more than making a really good Imperial Stout. This is a heck of a Lager.

On tap. It’s a clear, golden beer with a white head. The aroma is a bit weak, with grass, some pine cones and pale malts. There’s some bitterness in the flavor, less than I would like in a summer ale though, and it’s too heavily carbonated, making it quite filling. Medium body, quite dry. Pale malts in the back, grass, some generic fruits and a touch of pine cones in the flavor. Rather short finish. Well... too boring for my likings. 130826

On tap at the Hay Merchant. It’s a lightly hazy dark golden beer with a dense, finger thick off-white head leaving lacings. The aroma is very tropical and flowery, some pineapple, peaches and pine cones. Some malty sweetness too. There’s sweetness in the flavor too, balanced by a pleasant bitterness. Pine cones, peaches and some pineapple. Medium body, very soft on the carbonation. Bitter, fruity finish. Not the most exiting IPA I’ve had, but it doesn’t taste bad and it’s going down easily. 130825

On tap at Flying Saucer Lucky 13. Pours a cloudy brown with no head. The aroma is booze, oak, and spice. Thin mouthfeel with strong spice upfront and sweet fruit flavor, boozy finish.

On tap at Yardhouse. 6.25 for a half pint? Pours a cloudy yellow with small white head that lasts awhile. The aroma is clove, banana, and spice. Medium mouthfeel with light spice and clove flavor with lingering dry finish. Good tripel.

Appearance: It pours a black color with a small, bubbly beige head, and fairly heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is a nice mix of roasted/burnt malts and some lengthy hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has average carbonation, a decent feel, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid Black IPA. They did a really nice job here of mixing the roast/burnt malts with the bitter hops and having neither completely overpower. The mix works well, and so does the beer.

On tap at Flying Saucer for IPA Day. Pours a cloudy brown with large creamy beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is oak, brown sugar, and bourbon. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet bourbon flavor, oak, and light sweet hop. Alcohol present but not overpowering, a very good variation on the original.

Got in a trade with icetrauma. 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but likely bottled this year. Pours lightly hazy very dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big caramel, chocolate, toast, toffee, biscuit, molasses, dark bread, raisin, prune, wood smoke, ham, roast, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt and smoke notes with moderate dark fruits; and good strength. Taste of big caramel, chocolate, toast, toffee, biscuit, molasses, dark bread, wood smoke, roast, light nuttiness, raisin, prune, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, chocolate, toast, toffee, biscuit, molasses, dark bread, wood smoke, roast, nuttiness, raisin, prune, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt flavors with moderate smoke and dark fruits; with big robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent smoked doppelbock style! Awesome all around complexity and balance of dark/toasted malt flavors with smoke and dark fruit; and very robust and smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.

On draught at Ginger Man in Houston. The beer is a clear yellow-gold color with a medium thin white head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of toasted malt and hops. Light-bodied with flavors of grassy hops, bready malt and slight fruit. The finish is mildly bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.
