Description

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a very huge tan head - seems overcarbonated and maybe sick. The aroma has notes of butter, straw, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of butter, caramel, and spicy hops, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy amber with a dense and lacing off-white head with good retention. Spicy nose with some notes of dark, dried fruit. Medium body, rather harsh dark roast even ashy. A whiff of licorice also. Surprisingly bitter finish - kinda roasty bitter. Unusual for a Belgian. 221012

Draught, Randallized version Huge dense & white head, rings of lace; hazy yellow-orange beer. Sharp EU hops’ nose, even if they might be actually Cascade. The spiciness of the yeast comes out in force. Sharpish sweet-bittersh, spicy notes, even leafy. Very dry finish. Light to medium bodied, feels very carbonated, nearly over-. The USA hops might come out more in force, then it might even be called IPA. Still, far from bad, appetizing.

Bottled (thanks Kimi!). Hazy yellowish orange colour, small slightly off-white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, quite earthy and herbal with mild cardboardy notes. Flavour is fruity, wooden, floral and some bready malts. Slight alcohol sweetness as well. Flavour is quite pleasant actually.

Bottle at home - 19/08/12, thanks to Wim for an IP trade. Pours a golden orange colour with a decent off white head that soon subsides but has a good level of retention. Lively looking carbonation billowing around in the glass. Sweet pumpkin at the fore of the nose allied to candied sugar and apricot/peaches and a little yeast. Sweet malts on the flavour, pumpkin, candied fruits, caramel, hops. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation on the palate dispite the intitial highly carbonated appearance. Bitter sweet finish with aslightly warming alochol taste. Lots of lacing prevalent. Very well diguised alcohol in this beer. If I was blind tasting I’d have guessed at 6 or 7%. Really enjoyed this one!

Bottle at t’brugs beertje - 08/07/12. Very dark brown in colour with a frothy tan head. Dark fruit, yeast, spice on the nose. Taste as nose - a little roast maltiness a bit syrupy, not well balanced. Medium to full in body, dryish finish, typical Belgian RIS (Struise aside), not a winner but palatable.
