Description

Beautiful light amber color; nice fine perlage; creamy head. Strong aroma, malt and spices (coriander). Good mouthfeel, powerful, malty, sweet, warming, with a light vegetable touch (the pumpkin?). At the end, a good bitterness with a touch of caramel, old hops, coriander… Well brewed.

Import 11.2 oz bottle. Not quite as spicy as the label might have you believe. Pours pretty bubbly, then settles to to a cloudy orange. Smell is mostly of the candi sugar and some general Belgian spiciness. Taste: Well, not a lot of character to it. Just sticky. Some light malts, the sugar, a little orange/lemon and a general spiciness. Nothing I can really attribute to the mustard seed. But just not much to impress me.

Cloudy orange color, big off-white head. Weak aroma, bit malty. Sweet malty taste, sugar, hardly any alcohol present. Quite good balanced.

Hazy dark red pour - quite foamy - big calvados aroma, with some port, overripe fruit, brown sugar - lots of calvados in the taste as well - some apples and pears, darker fruit esters - slight, lingering port character on the back end - a little tartness - something odd in the finish tastes like...celery? - otherwise a good beer.

Bottle at Kerstbierfestival 2005, Essen, Belgium
Clear, brown body. Virtually no head. Looks like cognac or something like that. Nose of honey, pears, port, cask wood, ... Lightly sweet, lightly bitter initial flavour. Lightly sweet, moderately bitter finish. Nice, but nothing special. Probably too much alcohol.

Surprising, unique, and pretty good. Coriander aroma is restrained. Cloudy amber color, foamy head. The flavor was the real surprise here, with a nicely refreshing tartness that mad this very pleasant while I was outside grilling on a hot August evening. There’s a fair amount of orange citrus flavor throughout this, reminiscent of the Hitachino Nest White but more balanced and less offensive. This reminds me of a hybrid between traditional witbier, the Nest White and a Berliner Weisse.

(Bottle 33 cl) Reddish amber, slightly hazy. Sweetish, vinuos scent of desert wine. Soft flavours of sweetish, roasted malt, raisins and other dried fruits - perhaps even overripe fruits. And again notes of desert wine in the flavours. Very delicious and delicate. A real warming nightcap. 260705

Bottled (BBE 2007)
Hazy nut brown, small creamy off-white head. Fruity, lightly hoppy. Starts a bit spicey, some leafy hoppy notes in the middile. Hints of sugar, but this is not a sweet beer. Slightly grassy aftertaste.

A hazy orange beer with a small white head. The aroma is very light and primarily of wheat. The flavor is sweet wheaty and somewhat acidic.

(Bottle 33 cl) Very orangey golden with a very small head. Incredibly fresh citrusy nose - or orange nose to be precise. Very sourish orange flavours and fresh, perfumy notes of coriander. No malt at all. 180705
