Description
Attic Brew Co. was borne out of years of beer consumption and small scale production. Oli and Sam met at university in Cardiff where their beer obsession began. Sam began brewing in his bedroom of their shared house and continued after graduating, moving back to Birmingham and setting up his home brewery in his attic.
In 2018, after they'd had the ridiculous idea to start a brewery, Oli left his job in London and moved to Birmingham. They took out a loan, rented a run down old industrial unit in Stirchley and bought a small brew kit that was older than they were. Several months of painting, building and, finally, brewing, allowed them to open the taproom doors on the 23rd November 2018.
Attic was greeted with an unbelievable show of support from local drinkers, who bought into their varied beer board and new take on the traditional local (editors note; we continue to be indebted to you all

Cask at Crown. Pours a clear light gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma light grass but is mainly grain and straw with a hint of bread coming through. Flavor has slightly earthy grain with a bit of straw, bread and grass coming through.

Draft at the brewery. Poured a hazy golden colour with an everlasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light citrus fruits. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a crisp, fresh, earthy, light herbal, floral, light citrus, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Cask at The Wolf, Hockey, Birmingham. Poured a clear golden colour with a thin white head. The aroma is malt and yeast. The flavour is light bitter, with a light, watery, light citrus, light hop bitter palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Too light all round to be considered seriously. Cask ales have no carbonation and need flavour, which this was sadly lacking. A cheap beer.

Draft at the Barrel Store by Attic, Birmingham. Poured a clear yellow golden colour with a thin, lasting, frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light citrus fruits. The flavour is moderate to light bitter, with a light, watery, earthy, mineral, light hop bitter palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty awful. Iād rather be drinking Heineken if Iām honest.

Hand-pulled pint at the Pheasant and Brewhouse on 11th August 2024. Golden body, mostly clean and clear, white crust. Not a huge amount going on to be honest, slight fruity feel and semi-sweet with a mild bittering finish. Refreshing enough, but lacked 'oomph'.
